To not apologise?

Was out walking my 2 dogs earlier this morning before it got too hot.

As we were walking across the field a little off lead daschund thing came running towards my 2. I immediately shortened their leads so I had good control of them. They’re greyhounds and can get a wee bit excited around small dogs.

The loose dog obviously had no recall as the owner was running after it, I just stood still with my 2 under control but they were barking excitedly at her dog.

She came humphing up giving me the dirtiest looks as if somehow this situation was my fault!

Was I in the wrong? I didn’t apologise as my dogs did nothing other than bark. Should I have?

There is no reason why she would be annoyed at you and expect an apology.

are you sure your read the situation correctly? Was she perhaps expecting an earful from you? Was she maybe just very unfriendly?

LetMeInYourWindow · 09/07/2022 11:30

She will be one of those owners who will have viewed your barking dogs as being out of control, whilst not having a clue that it’s actually her tiny little poppet that is badly trained and not under her control.

You did nothing wrong.

Georgeskitchen · 09/07/2022 11:30

No. She should keep her mutt under control

SammyScrounge · 09/07/2022 11:32

Her dog was the one out of control, not yours. And she's the one who should have apologised.

Was she maybe just very unfriendly?

Maybe, she stomped off giving her boyfriend an earful for not helping her. He had their other dog.

Don’t give them a second thought. Miserable couple! I am sure they leave a trail of irritated and puzzled people behind them everywhere they go!

Embarrassed by her own dog/lack of control over it OP, it's a shame that embarrassment doesn't often translate into owners like this actually training their dog Confused

I imagine she was just extremely stressed about her dog. Don't sweat it.

YANBU at all. You had your dogs on a lead and under control, she didn’t and should be the one apologising if anything. She just sounds miserable really.
My dog usually has a good recall but not always prefect, I know she has absolutely no interest in any dogs or people she doesn’t know though so I know she’s okay off the lead, if she went up to people and dogs she didn’t know even though she usually good at listening I’d still be a lot more cautious.
