All I have left to get are new trainers and colouring pencils for both dc and I’m done.
School books and uniforms are ordered, I have spent just over €200 so far so I reckon I can get my costs in under €400 (including the school contribution of €40 per child! Feeling proud and very much ahead of myself 🤣 anyone else??

My children grow like weeds, if I order new stuff now, it won't fit in October!

I just always bought two sizes up and swapped over when old uniform was outgrown. That way it was never too big or too small. One year DS went from a 14 to a 16 in a year, but on average it lasted two years.

Mouk · 08/07/2022 18:32

I'm in Ireland.

I've bought their schoolbooks for next year. Copies, schoolbags and stationary can wait.

My DD doesn't need a new uniform, unless she has a massive growth spurt during the summer. My DS goes to a separate school (Educate Together) and thankfully there's no uniform.

I'll pay the school fees at the end of September (the deadline).

Mouk · 08/07/2022 18:34

To add...

I'll buy them new shoes/trainers closer to the time as they are heavy on shoes.

Tiredalwaystired · 08/07/2022 18:37

DD2 starting high school in Sept. Just two local suppliers and queues are round the block by august.

Bought all the branded stuff last week when shop was quiet - they will exchange if they grow as long as it was bought no earlier than July. Tried online shopping a couple of years ago but the sizing was wild so much prefer to do it in person and get the branded stuff out of the way.

For the person saying about wait for August pay packet, I bought the branded bag and PE bag in June, and will buy skirts trousers and shoes in August, so being organised has actually made it less of a cash flow issue.

Givemeallthegin8 · 08/07/2022 18:40

I love being organized but still a bit to go!

Dd2 starting school so have the uniform from older dd, will just buy one new one .
Have to buy new runners and school books are ordered. School requisites need to be paid for both - I think it’s €130 unless they’ve gone up - I hope not 😭
Bought school bag, pencil case, beaker , lunch box and stationery

Dd1 needs 2 new tracksuits including polo shirts, jumper for uniform and school socks. school shoes and runners . Need to order her books ( they come covered so very handy !) Also stationery , beaker and lunchbox .
So have basically only bought the new school bag for her .
It’s so expensive, with both now doing after school activities it’s going to cost us a fortune.

JellyTeapot · 08/07/2022 18:51

I've bought all their uniform as sainsburys had 20% off - with 3 children who are all hard on their clothes I need to take advantage of savings where I can!

Will get shoes closer to the time, although the incompetent sales assistant in Clarks last year berated me for leaving it too late. In the second week of august Hmm (He also tried to tell me the shoes my daughter was walking out of were fine and she should just wear two pairs of socks until half term. Won't be going back there again.)

Mrsfussypants1 · 08/07/2022 18:58

Made a good start with the m&s uniform promotion and the sainsburys (sainsburys is going back, lots of frayed hems, loose threads and much thinner than the same pinafores weve had for the last 3 yrs) . School logo Cardigans/jumpers came today. Still lots to get apart from p.e kit which has lots of room to grow in still and wasn't used for the whole of Yr 1, they all did p.e in uniform and trainers so I'm hoping to get some use out of it. Donated all this years uniform today, just kept a cardigan and ginghams, non of the winter uniform will fit her this winter.

WhiteFire · 08/07/2022 18:58

I'll think closer to the time. Dd2 has not long had new uniform so hopefully hers will still fit. Dd1 has just finished so anything will be held for ds, who may just need a new blazer (different blazer styles for girls and boys)

Next year dd2 will start secondary so she'll need a bit more kiting out.

Cuddlywuddlies · 08/07/2022 18:59

@JellyTeapot yes M&S have a 20% off school wear at the moment and I decided to get my dd’s jumpers as they are a sweater instead of knitted and she much prefers them. So then I just kept going.

we are lucky we don’t have to get shoes, they can wear whatever footwear they like so I just get them trainers in august if needed.

I'm self employed and my income isn't at all predictable. I've got some spare cash at the moment so I've splurged on uniform for my two and am all ready for September - first and probably last time I'll be prepared early 😁

AmbushedByCake · 08/07/2022 20:04

DD got new school shoes this term. She wants pinafore in the winter, and she will need new cardigans. Not sure about tshirts. She'll be moving to KS2 so no more free school dinners, she will need a lunch bag. I think all of DSs uniform fits but I'll get his feet measured. He grows really slowly and his uniform was massive on him to fit his enormous head.

WhatsHoppening · 08/07/2022 18:29

These threads make me so grateful for DC school! It’s non uniform, don’t need to provide any books or equipment. No PE kit just come in in leggings and t shirt and trainers! She still gets free school meals so total back to school cost is basically 0! Other than the obligatory haircut and a wardrobe refresh if she needs anything generally. Dreading secondary!!

I'm dreading secondary too! The school I'm hoping DD will go to the entire uniform has to be bought from the school suppliers, no cheap supermarket basics!

CoffeeWithCheese · 08/07/2022 20:14

I'm done with the uniform order (I buy big to top up anything that's too shabby or outgrown - but with two kids - one or the other will wear it). Shoes got outgrown recently - I'll only replace those whenever they're needed, they had a load of new tracksuit bottoms for PE bought for wearing on school residential. DD2 needs a new lunchbox as hers is falling apart but that's about it really.

I buy stationery for DD2 to keep in school because she struggles gripping normal pencils with her SEN - will send a top up supply in for her class teacher at some point as well.

This is fairly normal for me - normally do bulk uniform end of June, then school bags and lunchboxes etc if they need replacing during the July/August period.

Testina · 08/07/2022 20:27

I’m not intending to buy anything! Unless there’s a change of school of course, I’ve never understood blanket buying in summer!
Uniform fits, trainers fit, stationery doesn’t expire…
Helps thae

Testina · 08/07/2022 20:27

Helps that there’s no book to buy!
But as last summer, I’m buying nowt!

chubbachub · 08/07/2022 20:33

Im all organised but in Scotland they go back in August.
Dont see too much growing within a month. Hopefully 😂

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/07/2022 20:34

DD15 doesn’t need anything, however DD11 is starting high school and needs everything from the school supplier. From past experience they sell out and don’t restock before September so I ordered early as it’s a school that hits the press every year for isolating pupils breaching the uniform rules. I’d hoped I could kit her out with her sisters old uniform but alas they now wear the same size. I have everything now except shoes

JaninaDuszejko · 08/07/2022 20:37

Mine are teenagers and I've realised I'm probably not going to need to buy any more school uniform after this year (we need some new white shirts). In fact I may have accidentally (last year) bought a blazer DD1 will never grow into.

Cherrysherbet · 08/07/2022 20:39

Nope. Definitely can’t be arsed yet.

Not done any Christmas shopping either….. 🤷‍♀️

stillherenow · 08/07/2022 20:42

And when you get to secondary ... I've told my y9 to make her shoes and all her uniform last until end of y11 please !

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 08/07/2022 20:50

I did it one year. 3 Dcs in secondary and their growth had stabilised. Or so I thought.

Not only did the 3 of them all decide to grow and despite going next size up nothing bloody fit. Very expensive year that one, as during that academic year eldest went from 4”11 to 6 foot 😂 And boy did I miss the regular shops for uniform, most of it could only be bought from the online school shop.

We have a long list of stationary that gets handed in at the start of the school year . Things like glue sticks and white boards markers. Just handy to have it done and dusted

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 09/07/2022 13:31

I have and my kid’s haven’t broken up. We are holiday for the start of the school holidays and then shops do start to run out of uniform. Clarks appointment is booked for the end of August.

Cuddlywuddlies · 09/07/2022 13:31

This years list also require us to get a set of headphones so I’ll need to get those too…

I’ve ordered uniform labels because I had a 30% off voucher and booked annual eye tests
and school shoe fitting appointment. That’s it so far, waiting for the M&S 25% off uniform then will order.
