Like many others been keeping a very close eye on our energy usage over the last few months!

I check our account online weekly and submit readings every 2 weeks. Last bill was £15.40 for Gas and £52.00 for electricity.

We're £459 in credit paying £170pm DD. 2 weeks ago a fixed tariff was being offered at £263, today its being offered at £353!!!! Plus they've suggested upping our DD to £185 pm to cover our bills.

I know that they are forecasting for the winter months which is why we are trying to build up a credit, but sweet mother of God my heart sunk when I saw those figures!!!

A family member of mine works for one of big energy companies. My dd went from £85 a month to £195. I was advised by family member to call my energy supplier and ask them why my dd had went over and above the 55% increase. When I called they were almost robotic in that they had a script for when asked this question. I was told - oh I'm not sure why it's so high, they have over estimated (despite metered readings) and they dropped my dd from £195 to £160. Maybe worth giving them a call and ask about the price increases and question the 55% increase.

If anyone is with Octopus 🐙 you can order a stuffed toy octopus.

It is free with free delivery. They do a small or a large one.

You order it on line on their website

Thanks, I just ordered one 🤩

@Ohbuggeritsme - they said 7-10 working days, and I think it was around that.
The chap was so helpful and gave me a few options for getting the money back.
I’m keeping my direct debit high, and happy to build a surplus ready for the massive hikes in the autumn.

I love Octopus. We're on their variable rate tariff for gas, and their Octopus Go tariff for electricity, which enables us to charge our electric car really cheaply. Our monthly direct debits haven't gone up since last year and we're still in credit. I've always found their customer service people to be exceptionally helpful.

Pay for what you use, as you use it. Ignore their dd rates.

We transferred over from avro with 600+ credit, still wanted to raise our dd from 109 to 180ish, with the increase that credit was gone by the start of the year along with the warm home 140. This thread reminded me I got a email last week that my new dd would be 284, hopefully have managed to change it in time.

As you say, this only shows if you log into the actual website which is a bit shit. The apps really basic.

What a time to be alive huh.
