I lean left in my political affiliation and can’t say I’ve ever been supportive of the idea of a Tory government. Im also not a fiercely political person either.

Im a single mother of 2, who earns a small income self employed & receive UC. My household income is low and my children are entitled to FSM & 1 has SEN which meant I had to leave my full time role.

I don’t have a great understanding of politics or even know much about everything that Boris has done throughout his time in power.

I do feel this Boris has been more central in his decisions than maybe a typical Tory government . Does a fresh conservative government mean getting back to a more staunchly right wing government?

Money is very tight currently … I’m feeling anxious what this could mean for our living conditions this winter.

Define ‘staunchly right wing’ when did we last have a govt like that? Not cameron or may I would say? There is no reason to think whoever will take over will be like Margaret thatcher

whoever takes over will be desperate to make a success to try and turn around the perception of the Tory party (not an easy task) and hopefully focus on the mandate of election of levelling up and making work work for everyone etc

on the other hand I am genuinely wondering if a labour govt would be able to help in the financial crisis we may face
cost of living definitely going up for everyone will be worse in winter- what are labour proposing (not goady- I just dont know)

it’s all a worry for all of us I think unless your married to a billionaire

Well he's said that there won't be any big policy changes before he goes in the Autumn but I guess that, after that, it will depend who we get. The OBR have said we need to cut spending or raise taxes so, whoever is in, we're in for a bumpy ride.

I think we might see tax cuts (which Boris might have done if Sunak let him) which will be popular, but it worries me that will fuel inflation and where the spending costs needed to facilitate that will go.

I think Boris going is bad news if you were hoping for a change of government at the next election. I don't think they'd have been re elected with him, but now they have time to regroup and the electorate is basically right leaning. Labour not as far left as it was under Corbyn, but still more left than most are comfortable with, so I think there's a very stong possibility the Conservatives will win again.

Grrr. Spending cuts

Three times in a row, Tory PMs have had to resign mid term after self serving:

-Cameron knew that Brexit was bad for the country but campaigned on it and held the referendum for the good of the Tory Party and to gain full power.
-May was a remainer who drew hard and dangerous Brexit red lines to gain support of the party - against all logic of a remainer. All for the good of the Tory Party and staying in power. Ultimately, trying to put a slither of common sense, reality and solution into the deal (the backstop) did for her.
-Johnson simply toyed with the country for the last 7 years for the benefit of his desire for power and desperation for his own good.

Behind them all, there’s been enablers, backstabbers, racists, homophobes and charletons who’ve bankrolled their mates, disregarded decency, lied to the public, absolutely hammered the poor and laughed all the way with boxes of wine while schools, the NHS, public services and the economy go to shit.

Unfortunately, while Boris frankly didn’t give a shit about anything but power and having his way due to his extreme arrogance and entitlement, to the extent of not giving a shit about hiding his moronicness or corruption, the new leader will probably be more clever in their self serving private lines of peddling money and the public will continue to turn a blind eye to the root of the problem - the current incarnation of the Tory party.
