Terrified of upcoming laparoscopy and hysteroscopy

Hello,

I have got my laparoscopy and hysteroscopy surgeries coming up within the month and I'm terrified.

I have horrendous emetophobia (fear of being sick) and I'm so scared that it's going to make me sick.

I can't not have the surgery as I'm ttc and have a hydrosalpinx to be removed as well as endo to have any chance of conceiving.

I feel really stupid panicking about being sick when I'm also in such mental turmoil regarding my fertility but I just can't turn this phobia off. I will obviously be asking for anti emetics.

Can somebody help please :(

@FindingMeno

Thank you.

God you're strong having one with no pain relief! I'm definitely not that person! 😂 x

Please don’t worry! I had both these things in May just gone. I didn’t feel sick at all and I didn’t even have the much talked about shoulder pain. It was honestly fine, in out and over with.

@girljulian

I'm not even trying to think about this famous shoulder pain! So hopefully I won't have it either! 😂 x

Don't think I've had a laparoscopy but I did have a hysteroscopy just over two years ago as part of investigations for postmenopausal bleeding. I sort of assumed it would be like a smear and didn't think much about it beforehand beyond having a shower. Had it at my local NHS hospital with a very jovial, very posh surgeon and two nurses in attendance. Explained what they were going to do and said I could watch on the monitor if I wanted (??) Didn't offer pain relief but said I could tell them to halt at any point. It wasn't painful but it was uncomfortable. Reminiscent in a way of bad period cramps. Cup of tea and a biscuit afterwards like they used to when you gave blood. Had to wait for twenty minutes or so and then I walked the mile home from the hospital.

Really good advice above about talking pre-op to the anaesthetist. I ended up having a hysterectomy and at every stage was so impressed by the desire of all the medical professionals involved to provide enough information so that consent was genuinely informed. Just ask! Hope it goes well :)
