@willstarttomorrow I know what you mean, the first time I visited Sheffield I was amazed at how much was packed in there! It was like London, but friendlier and easier to get around (although I quickly learned a lesson when I once decided to take the car there!).
I don't think I've even seen half of Yorkshire and I've lived here for years.

Noooooo it's rugby league union is a plumb in the mouth sport hate it

Oh grow up.

Guess you've never heard Brian Moore then or Austin Healey or Will Greenwood or Steve Diamond, to name a few.

You are trolling for fun.

Oblomov22 · 06/07/2022 20:47

Accents from players? Which players?

You are a dream aren't you OP. I have a non descript southern accent, originally from Devon, now Surrey, non strong / non placeable accent. How can that be changed?

@Eggsinthemorning you'd probably hate my accent but I bet you wouldn't have a clue what it is.

BTW - I hate Yorkshire accents because they remind me of my utter twats of neighbours who are professional "God's own country" kind of shit Yorkshire people who have fallen out with everyone in the area.

Exactly.
So which players are you referring to?

Choopi · 06/07/2022 20:52

I dont know to someone that isn't from the UK they are all pretty strong accents to me. I remember a thread here before where people were saying that giraffe rhymed with scarf, you can't make those two rhyme without a pretty strong accent.

notnownorma · 06/07/2022 20:52

Tiresome inverted snobbery.

Oblomov22 · 06/07/2022 20:53

"Keep the accent from where u originally are !"

Eh?
I have.
Are you pissed?

Dnadoon · 06/07/2022 20:55

I know what you mean OP. I live down south now but when I hear a brummie accent it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy 😁

Darbs76 · 06/07/2022 20:56

I’m from the north, live down south (not far from Wimbledon) and my children have a southern accent. I much prefer it. I think professionally you’re taken more seriously with a southern accent. Not that affects you no doubt judging by your spelling, unless you’ve just had one too many Pimms at Wimbledon

Eggsinthemorning · 06/07/2022 20:56

Oblomov22 · 06/07/2022 20:52

Exactly.
So which players are you referring to?

Most of the British players

Why on earth would I want to - the 70 somethings I live near have put me off anything remotely conencted with that county for life.

willstarttomorrow · 06/07/2022 21:03

@Loics get to Leeds, so civilised now it will blow your mind 😁 We also have the biggest banking, law and finance hubs outside London. Obviously nowhere near as sophisticated as the home counties where nothing happens and you have to get a train into London for any action (I was moved to Guildford aged 8, it took many years to emotionally move on from this). Totally get what OP is saying. It is not grim up north, it is dynamic, full of talent and life. So pissed off that every time I visit family in the south their only comment is how much cheaper house prices must be. Well yes if you want a 4 bed in Holbeck which is the red light district .

Accents are fun and I wish we celebrated all the variety a bit more rather than a handful of token over-enunciated “northern” accents on the TV in a minor character once a year as a present for behaving ourselves if we are lucky.

I feel it’s definitely getting with shows like Sherwood at least (even though it came across a bit like someone not northern wrote it)

Someone not Northern did write it. James Graham wrote it. He’s from Nottinghamshire. In the Midlands. Where Sherwood is set.
