Boundary wall damage !

What would you do in this situation? ....... Basically my house is an old house and a new house was built next door before we moved in, the wall which is our responsibility has become damaged and fallen down, we now understand why, this is because the person who built next door fence used gravel boards and in places nothing to hold the rubble and soil back and this has caused by wall to fall down. To rectify the problem it's costing me money to fix ! Would I be unreasonable to ask our neighbors (who we get on really well with) to contribute to fixing the damage ??

You may need to get legal advice and a surveyor to confirm the did not properly contain their land.

What seemslikeaniceday says.

I think normally retaining walls are the property/responsibility of the person whose land is being retained. I guess this situation has arisen because the wall wasn't a retaining wall, it was just a boundary wall, when the deeds were created.

Thank you yes you are right and the unfortunate thing is the person who built their fence knew this and they knew it would cause problems when they were long gone 😖

I believe this should have been covered by a Party Wall agreement, a decent solictor should be able to advise.
