misuse of an apostrophe?

In his resignation letter he mentions

we protected people's jobs

I thought he was better than that.

In accordance with the laws of pedanticness this post contains one (1) spelling mistake, one (1) grammar mistake, and one (1) affront to pedantry.

Is there more than one Rishi Sunak? Who knew!

OutDamnedSpot · 05/07/2022 18:51

Er. His is right. Yours is wrong.

TeapotTitties · 05/07/2022 18:51

Well you're not exactly big on using capital letters, so we all have something I guess.

Isn't it just indicating the job of the individual!?
I'm a scientist not an English language buff so perhaps talking bollocks - again!) 😜

People is plural. Person is just one.

BringMeTea · 05/07/2022 18:53

Aw well done for taking it on the chin OP.

midairchallenger · 05/07/2022 18:58

Yes, respect.

I would of got it right accept I was effected by the shock of the letter. It's significance may allude you now, but will burn deep into you're psyche when you consider that it is a matter of principal.

Veil !! Yes, ( I'm just as bad as the chancellor )

The original is "vale of tears" though, isn't it? Used to refer to life on this earth, in a pious Victorian sort of way. E.g., "life is but a vale of tears." Sort of Pilgrim's Progress type of image.

Though I assume you meant a veil as I'm not sure how you'd type through a vale.

LargeDeviation · 05/07/2022 21:04

@ethelredonagoodday You may loose my goodwill if you do not withdraw you're accusation. Whom do you think your talking too? I awate your apology with baited breath.

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 05/07/2022 21:11

Veil, vale ?
I just had a mental image of him typing it with blurry eyes because he finally decided to do the right thing! Although he probably didn't type it anyway !

thelittlefox · 05/07/2022 21:12

It never pays to put these people on a pedal stool, OP

itsgettingweird · 05/07/2022 21:16

I was more interested in him saying how much they disagreed behind the scenes yet still publicly supported him.

And it's important the chancellor and PM can support each other.

So 👋👋👋👋

mast0650 · 05/07/2022 21:20

I think it is correct. "Sunaks' " on the other hand, is definitely wrong! Or was that supposed to be ironic?

Thelikelylass · 05/07/2022 21:30

hear, here.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/07/2022 22:24

I thought the apostrophe was in the correct place too

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 05/07/2022 22:26

Where was the spelling mistake?

Heistonabike · 05/07/2022 22:31

Chester Draws

<runs away>

the80sweregreat · 05/07/2022 18:37

Does it matter ? Maybe he was typing it through a vale of tears because he finally found his backbone and it hurt a bit ?
.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Borgonzola · 05/07/2022 22:47

It is most certainly vale of tears, not veil Grin

I like your image, but I suspect the only tears blurring his vision were those of cunning calculation about when exactly was the right time to go to increase his chances of being PM in the future.

I don't even mean that particularly critically. I suspect most if not all of the cabinet and shadow cabinet constantly make those calculations.
