Had a very useless appointment with the GP today who was more interested In how I parent as a disabled mother than the issue at hand. Which is my lack of sleep.
I haven't slept more than 3 hours in a month. I go to he'd at 10, drift off after 11 and I'm awake by 2am without fail then I can't get back to sleep.
I don't have screens in my room. I use a smart alarm clock to play rain sounds and wake me up in a morning.
It's not too hot or too cold.
I have a weighted blanket
I do need a new mattress and it's on my list to buy but I can't get one until the end of August as I don't have £200 spare right now.
I've tried chamomile tea
I've tried meditation
I've tried sleep pillow sprays
I've tried crystals (I know but I'm desperate)
I've tried hypnosis
I've tried counting sheep
I've tried everything. I don't even read in bed any more in case it was over stimulating my brain. I just lie there and try to sleep.
Please give me tips, hacks, anything at all to help me to sleep. I'm so exhausted 😩

I've been recommended some melatonin gummies from a UK website.....

Fellow insomniac but it's because I'm a shift worker.

I have tried most things already listed!
I take a piriton every night before bed (sedating antihistamine)

I used to take the Kirkland sleep aid whivh is another, older style sedating antihistamine which worked a dream until I got too used to them (order via Amazon US site, can ship to UK)

I have on occasion had a THC gummie - which again works a treat but largely frowned upon.

HerRoyalHappiness · 06/07/2022 21:04

Melatonin can't be sold in the UK can it? I've ordered some from a US site but worried it might get stopped at customs.

HappyDays40 · 06/07/2022 21:06

Valerian root

RockinHorseShit · 06/07/2022 21:10

It's fine, I've ordered online without any problems

You might also want to try listening to "Binaural Beats" music at bedtime. There's lots on YouTube & I find it relaxes me & helps me sleep. DH finds it helps him too

freesiafrenzy · 06/07/2022 21:12

The only thing that helped me was hrt but I know that's dependant on lots of other symptoms. My insomnia was horrific. I'd dose for an hour tops a night. I feel for you op

HerRoyalHappiness · 06/07/2022 21:14

Thanks all. I've got the CBD now so I've just taken that to see if that helps relax me any and allows me to drift off even if I only get a couple more hours sleep than i have been I'll feel much better

OP posts:
silentpool · 06/07/2022 21:22

Melatonin
Eye Mask
Brown noise app on phone - little outside noises can be very disturbing when you are struggling to sleep and this blocks them.
The other thing is knowing your sleep cycle. If I'm in bed by 10:30, I will sleep. If it's later, I will struggle.
Lastly - don't know how old you are but HRT if you are in the age range.

HerRoyalHappiness · 06/07/2022 21:26

Brown noise? What's that? <off to google>
Unfortunately I'm only 30 so not a chance would they give me HRT. They won't even sterilise me despite telling me not to have more kids because it would be bad for my physical health. Apparently I'm too young to make that decision. Yet my ex got the snip on his 20s no problem.

I meant no disrespect, @HerRoyalHappiness.

That’s the term we use in the U.S.

medianewbie · 06/07/2022 21:34

Watching this OP as I struggle too

HerRoyalHappiness · 06/07/2022 21:35

@IDreamOfTheMoors no problem. Its probably lack of sleep making me more touchy than usual anyway. But we don't use that term over here, it fell out of fashion long ago.

OP posts:
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2022 21:39

Apparently there is white, brown and pink noise all to do with slightly different frequencies,I just googled,I'm not sure it's a derogatory term.

minidancer · 06/07/2022 21:42

Magnesium and boots sleepeeze (which are just antihistamine)
Sleep mask
Wax (mouldable) ear plugs

LucyD30 · 06/07/2022 21:45

If you don’t or can’t go down the drugs route check out binaural beats. We produce brain waves which change depending on what state of mind we are in - for example if we are highly alert and wide awake our brains produce brain waves in the gamma frequencies and when we are in a deep sleep we produce brainwaves in the delta frequencies. Delta frequencies are around 3 hertz so not audible so what binaural beats do is produce two frequencies- one in each ear with a carrier frequency so maybe 500 and 503 hertz - one in each ear and our brain will hear the difference as a beat. This induces a sleep effect as our brain waves synchronise with the frequency played. I may not be explaining it very well but it is something that has really interested me and definitely works for me. If nothing else it is very relaxing. Worth a shot - loads of videos and info on YouTube! here is one I love - just listen in headphones m.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ_W1w9v-2Y

i also take a strong dose of l-Theanine - around 400 to 800mg. It makes you drowsy but is just an amino acid so shouldn’t interfere with meds but do check this

HerRoyalHappiness · 06/07/2022 21:47

Binaural beats sound interesting. Definitely worth a try.

The derogatory term was relating to an earlier post about "mental patients" which as someone who suffers from psychosis I found quite upsetting. But that's probably because I haven't slept

Ah right, the US has many terms that the UK haven't used for years.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2022 22:50

I use a lavender spray is nice, after a while your brain associates sleep with the smell. I love it.

I've worn earplugs for years, couldnt sleep without them as every little noise wakes me. It's just so peaceful and creates its own type of white noise.

The conical colourful (purple/pink/orange) ones stay in the best, about £5 for 3 pairs from Lloyd's pharmacy. Each pair lasts a month or so.

Or 10 pairs of orange ones in Poundland,in the DIY section.

allboysherebutme · 06/07/2022 22:54

I don't have caffeine at all anymore, I take kalms, try to avoid too much chocolate, don't drink coffee or anything and spray my legs with magnesium spray, I also use lush sleepy lotion works great. X

allboysherebutme · 06/07/2022 22:57

Do you have fibromyalgia. ? X

Happenchance · 06/07/2022 23:00

5htp

I would avoid eating fatty foods close to bedtime, though eating almonds and banana might help.
