I don't know whats wrong with me - I honestly can't think whether its ok of me to put raw chicken pieces in chicken stock and poach the chicken and then add vegetables and eat it like a soup?

Is that OK or not?

yes it's fine

Fairislefandango · 04/07/2022 17:03

Yes, it's absolutely fine. Poaching is a perfectly normal way of cooking chicken.

Yes that's fine

Yes along as you cook it until the chicken is cooked. If you take it out and eat the veg before the chicken is cooked then still raw bugs. But poached until cooked then all goid

You won’t make yourself ill. If you roast it first you get more flavour/different flavour. It’s all about preference and how much time you’ve got.

Are you talking about heating up stock you already have, and cooking the chicken and veg in that stock? That’s fine.

Or are you talking about trying to make stock and cooked chicken at the same time ie you start with water and raw chicken and end up with stock and cooked chicken? That won’t work as stock needs hours (and bones) and the chicken would be way overcooked.

I think you mean the first option which is fine but just checking.

Thanks! I've actually got a banging headache today and not thinking straight.

You can do this if you take the chicken out once it's cooked, take it off the bone then return the bones to the pan.
