to want to rant about annoying types of parents?

Ok, I actually know I am. And I would add the "ranting about everything and everyone parent" (aka myself) to the list of annoying parents 😅

But if, hypothetically, I were allowed to rant, I could think of many types of (admittedely subjectively) annyoing parents:

  • the "spending their time and energy to placate school and other parents, instead of effectively dealing with their own bullying/misbehaving kids" parents;

  • the "perfect fassade" parents;

  • the "muscling into PTA functions to advance their own agenda" parents;

  • the "delegating all parenting and disciplinary tasks to the school" parents;

  • the "kids will sort it out among themselves" parents of bullies;

  • the "boys will be boys" parents;

  • the "what's wrong with 11/12 year olds watching porn?" parents;

  • the "complaining and suffering in private, but never even supporting those who attempt to do something about it" parents;

  • the "showcasing expensive branded bags to prove something" parents [note: I like nice bags and clothing myself, but it's the attitude that comes with it];

  • the "doing friendly small talk while judging everyone scathingly and quitely" parents;

  • the "driving their almost teenage kid to school, because he is not a morning person" parents;

  • the "twittering some politically charged dismissive comment about the parents evening at school" parent;

  • etc.

@shivawn No, most certainly not. Sorry that it came across like that, it was not intended like that. That referred to very indulgend parents of a kid that is fit and healthy with no underlying condition, but simply loves a lie-in in the morning.

I think you meant to direct this at @WhatHaveIFound not me

My fit and healthy kids love that extra time to sleep. 😘

But also, i have no idea why this would bother you so much.

Still don’t see a problem giving your teen a lift to school? 🤷‍♀️

Humandignity · 04/07/2022 11:30

@RiojaRose No, I'm not a teacher, just a parent who is not good at handling the summer heat, which might explain my ranty mood. 😳

You appear very judgemental OP!!! You seem to have a bigger attitude problem than all the parents in your post.
I give my teenage fit and healthy son a lift to school everyday - why? because I can and because I want to - not that it is anyone's business why I give my son a lift to school!

Branded bags?? Judgemental much? - why not if they can afford it.
You need to look back at your post re-evaluate your judgemental attitude, summer heat or not!

My son's school goes from Year 1 through to A Levels (small international school in Portugal). There is one parking lot right near the school gates with about ten spaces, and then a second lot about 250m up the road with loads of spaces.
You have to walk along a country road the 250m but it's safe. To make it safer still, secondary kids are meant to be dropped off at the bigger lot between 8:45 and 8:55 for a school start of 9:00, and primary kids at either lot between 9:00 and 9:10 for a 9:25 start. With this in mind, can I add:

  1. the "my secondary aged child is too precious to walk 250m so they must use the primary lot" parents

  2. the "I am late for drop off so I'll park horizontally behind vertical spaces and block everyone in until MY child reaches the gates" parents

  3. the "I bought a big car I am not comfortable driving, so I will just stop either directly on the verge or behind the primary lot, blocking both the through road and the vertical primary lot so that I don't have to parallel park or reverse or turn into a narrow-ish parking lot entrance" parents

And

  1. the "I like to go play golf or tennis in the mornings so I will drop my primary aged child off at 8:45 so the teachers have to babysit them because I can't possibly delay my game by an extra 15 minutes" parents

Car drop offs in the morning appear to be a controversial topic here! Agree, it's annoying when parents' cars block others or make it dangerous for others' kids to walk into the school.

I voted 'you are being unreasonable'.

But only because there's no option to vote 'you are being irritating'.

I avoid all this by not talking to other parents. I will happily make friends with people I work with or meet at a non-child related event who happen to be parents, given that conversation may occur that suggests they still retain a personality, but any loud performative gimp who's given up all sense of personhood and thinks being a parent is a personality - nope. The ones who bellow Phonics on the bus or who sing loudly along to CBeebies in the park. The ones who start conversations about their children (no one cares...)

Lots of people have kids. But some just make it their whole life, and what a bunch of dullards they are.

neverbeenskiing · 04/07/2022 19:31

I work in a school so come into contact with a lot of parents. List of the types of parents who annoy me is as follows

  1. Parents who are neglectful or abusive (physically/emotionally)

Everyone else is doing the best they can. I try to remind myself that there's no such thing as the perfect parent (I certainly can't claim to be!) and just because someone parents their DC in a way that I wouldn't parent mine, that doesn't mean I'm better than they are.

Harridance · 04/07/2022 19:34

I wouldn't give my teens a lift to school, they can walk

Harridance · 04/07/2022 19:36

Definitely agree with some - kids will sort it our among themselves - parents of bullies
