Help!!!! I've been scammed on Vinted, what can I do now???

I am so upset!!! I bought a perfume but obviously it was local pick up. I messaged the seller if she could send it to me as I probably won't be able to pick up. She said no problem she'll send it in the next day. She provided me a tracking number (on Thursday) and it's still says it's despatching to Royal mail. So the seller still not sent it. The 2 days window now is over and the user is blocked from the site. So I'm pretty sure she is scammed me. I contacted Vinted but I don't know if they'll do anything about it. I mean it's just so silly to give only 2 days and now I can't do anything to get my money back? It was £40 so I could've do something else with that... 😭😭😭😭😭 please help me? Who I need to write or call??? 😭😭😭

Hi, if you paid with Paypal, you can dispute it with them, otherwise, I would persist with Vinted or contact your bank to say it was fraudulent action, banks usually give refunds if you explain the situation, both options have worked for me before!

raffegiraffe · 26/10/2022 19:13

Hi, I got scammed like this see upthread. Vinted refunded after I raised it with them, just to reassure others. I thought it was weird when seller generated a tracking number at 2am on a sunday

Usernamemommy · 27/10/2022 00:19

@annabellame unfortunately I paid with Vinted balance..:( my money gone, won't buy anything from there now, I'm only selling things.
@raffegiraffe try what Annabellame.mentioned above that could work. I got nothing back from Vinted, they said message the seller who was already blocked from the site..lol...thanks for nothing. 😅😅😅

Vinted should be investigated by government, as it’s clearly operating /involved in a scam system.

from from my calculations the people are working from within Vinted itself.

My instance the payment was paid out before the person said the item was sent. The options to notify Vinted in that transaction were disabled.

Even with proof customer services would not help.

Vinted would not supply the bank account details of where they sent my money to even though it was clearly fraudulent behaviour.

The post office said they criminals simply purchase a label but don’t use it and they have seen the same fraudulent address labels many times.

Vinted will not take action against the fraud which is taking £10000’s per week from innocent shoppers.

Now I’ve been scammed, the fraud accounts are easy to spot… but still Vinted will not take action to disable them. Which is highly suspicious of their involvement.

sell on Vinted ….but if you buy anything decent, then chances are you will be scammed and Vinted will not help.

Vinted will not help & its happening to 10,000’s of people across countries.

Vinted will not take action against the fraud which is taking place online with their shoddy services - by calculations it’s a £££million fraud operation.

How can there be a two day window as they buy a label but don’t use it. How can Vinted pay out with out proof of delivery? There is always no proof of tracking NOTHING and in my case Vinted paid out and my options on the conversation were disabled … which makes me believe the fraud is huge & Vinted has been accessed by criminals. This scam is stealing from 1000’s of people per day.

Heatherbell1978 · 28/10/2022 07:25

I buy a lot from Vinted (and sell) and have never been scammed although it's all kids clothes which perhaps aren't high value goods anyway. I'm confused why you wouldn't just press the 'I have an issue' button which freezes the transaction and allows for the refund to happen. I just ignore the messages when the seller tells me they've posted something and wait for tracking details.

Areyounot · 28/10/2022 08:05

DO NOT USE VINTED!! I lost over £600 a year ago which I have still not received. These transactions happened at the same time.

One coat arrived absolutely covered in moth holes, I raised a dispute to send it back and the was told the refund was in process. I found out they gave me a refund then charged my card again.

The second coat I bought was located in the UK but it was sent from Poland I had to pay huge import costs which I refused to do and they still charged my card. I also raised a dispute and was told they had a problem with refund system and it would be on its way. After countless chats I still waiting over a year later.

Credit card company refused to cover the transaction as there was 2 transactions and I was thought to be intentionally using a scamming site!

I also a huge fan of a very expensive designer coat brand, I buy these second hand. VINTED is absolutely flooded with scammers with no feedback and only selling this one item for a £100. VINTED will not protect you. You can’t even pay with PayPal for a extra level of protection. Use eBay, it’s so much safer.

Help!!!! I've been scammed on Vinted, what can I do now???
Howard5074 · 28/10/2022 10:55

Do you think the bank will reimburse if I tell them I’ve been scammed by vinted. Spoken to them already but they said contact vinted. I contacted vinted 5 days ago and have heard nothing other than an automated response saying they will get back to me.

Howard5074 · 28/10/2022 10:56

How long until you were refunded by vinted?

raffegiraffe · 28/10/2022 18:41

They took about five days to get back to me then refunded that day

Katelyn1612 · 29/10/2022 15:21

Vinted will not refund you. They talk in circles and never address any issues, your money - like mine - will likely disappear and they will refuse to acknowledge their role in the huge public scam. This is the tip of the iceberg … £100,000’s upwards is going missing on a monthly basis. Vinted claim they are just a go between introducing sellers to buyers … if that’s the case they shldnt handle the money which is meant to be safe with them….and it’s not.

My money left Vinted account with no proof of delivery. I couldn’t claim from Royal Mail as it never went through the system, the thief only purchased a label, they gave a fake return address of a vetinary surgeons practice.

Why it’s suspicious of Vinteds involvement.. is that I have proof of Royal Mail fraud … Vinted refuse to give me the details of where the money was sent. And protect the criminals.

my story is not unique - to my dismay I have found HUNDREDS of similar stories online…

VINTED. Should be closed down 🌷

I’m in the same situation. But mine is £79! She ignores all my messages. I missed the 2 day window as I was on holidays. The item was returned back to the sender as my post office was closed. the tracking clearly shows this. yodel and vinted both claim their support is limited. I’ve reported her three times. She’s still on there. I don’t know what else I can do. I mean it’s a lot of money

Bananaman123 · 16/02/2023 19:54

Sorry if mentioned, I’ve used Royal Mail pick up service, I pay on the app, they collect the parcel, from my home, it can take a few days so that could be reason.

as someone who has sold a lot on vinted, the buyer doesn’t get the money til you say it’s arrived and everything is ok. If it’s not with you by certain date, auto refund to you. Vinted support are really good in my experience

Bananaman123 · 16/02/2023 20:01

Also the insurance you pay will cover you if it doesn’t arrive

coolcahuna · 16/02/2023 21:34

I've just had someone try and scam me on vinted. They used the inpost tracking but didn't actually send anything.

Went around in circles with vinted not reading my messages.. kept saying it had tracking.

Finally vinted refunded. The seller is still on there and has the same dress up for sale.

QueenCamilla · 16/02/2023 21:50

Don't buy on Vinted. But also don’t SELL there. Why support the marketplace with your business if they haven't sorted the fraud protection? Plus, you can equally get scammed as a seller....

Sophia33 · 02/07/2023 21:13

vinted isn't as good as you think!

I brought a jumper was in awful condition, the vinted team are useless, kept saying two days , thus went on 9 days, they kept saying please aloud us two days, the seller opened a return but at my cost, if lose out like £2.80 for the first Postage then another £2.80 back, wasn't really worth it, a few days later, they got their money and I binned the jumper! why should I pay for a return of an item marked very good condition!! loose over £5 postage for a £6 jumper!

another as a seller the buyer clearly damaged my otem and told vinted it wasn't wrapped well and was damaged, I asked where the protective wrapping inside was and she lied said it wasn't there, so she was refunded I lost my item.
vinted isn't as good as everyone thinks.

TimeToMoveIt · 02/07/2023 21:21

I've never seen a 2 day window on vinted, they get 5 days to send don't they? or anything where the seller can click it's been delivered

I've just had stuff delivered and they take pictures and if royal mail still hasn't said they have it then that's your proof surely? At some point vited will ask if it's been delivered and you click to say no

VINTED IS THE WORST
Bought a second hand bag via Vinted innocent and unsuspecting any foul play. It was a completely fake. I asked the buyer why she was selling a fake and she asked me to return the item.
The bag was :

  1. Not stitched correctly. The bag was definitely fake/ inauthentic and I sent pictures via vinted ( she has now deleted them) that showed that the top two stitches were missing where the handle of the bag meets the edge. A REAL Stella McCartney bag has two double laced stiches at the top. A fake does not. 2. The bag had a fake/ inauthentic tag inside and a replica China made card which had typos. A real Stella bag has a series of numbers stitched on the inside label which also reflect the year of the collection and the season- a fake does not. I sent her pictures comparing her fake to my real items at home and reported that the bag was not real but despite all this she took no action. I also let her know in the chat she was selling a fake and vinted again took no action.
I sent all of these photo as evidence and proof via Vinted chat box but here is tehe thing: THE SELLER HAS DELETED THESE NOW. They will often do that and then claim to not receive teh fake they sold you making money twice. Once the buyer realised that I had found out she was selling a fake she then started claiming it was her sisters bag: another lie. And that her sister had gifted it to her. She hastily then asked me to return the bag, which I faithfully and stupidly did. She now claims she never received the bag to claim mail compensation. She writes me an ultra fake message with a post it claiming the post office received an empty bag.

Via Vinted, it seems they are encouraging and allowing scam and fake resellers to take advantage of unsuspecting customers, which is a criminal and legal offense.

There are scams rife on Vinted with NOTHING to protect innocent buyers like me. There are dozens and dozens of customers falling for this scam - see the reddit post below.

hey @BrutalHonesty mumsnet is here to help other people and to provide input to others to support them-please keep your nastiness at bay if you can manage it. You seem to support immoral conduct on a business platform.
You are a joke.

Friendfoe1 · 07/12/2023 14:22

If Vinted has blocked them you should get a refund from them.

mumstara · 07/12/2023 21:10

Yes they have just disabled their account - and the stupid scammer owned up to his lies and pressed eveything is ok, so I am going to get my money back hopefully. These people are totally shameless they don’t even hide or deny their scams. After claiming I sent an empty bag and trying for mail fraud he seems to now say he has received the item back ok?!. What a cesspool vinted is. I have a friend who actually know someone who works in their office right now and they said that vinted is very concerned about fraudsters and police action because they can be shut down if they are seen to propagate provide a forum for or even turn a blind eye to criminal activity or theft. That this is a massive problem they are aware of and trying to address - so they have toughened their tolerance of anyone that’s been reported. Still, never again!
