My SIL & BIL are relocating back to UK from working abroad. We are meant to be helping with their house search due to the market moving so quickly. They have become keen runners in this time overseas, but have no other criteria for their property search other than a good running spot on and off road. I mean AIBU, I have two small children I barely get to walk, plus I can’t spend all my time traveling around the whole of the UK for this.

AIBU to only suggest places nearby?

A simple "Sorry I can't do this, I don't understand what you need" should suffice.

"Sorry I can't do this." is even simpler and reduces the risk that they start explaining in detail and expecting OP to do unreasonable amounts of work.

Not unreasonable for them to want this but I don't see why it has any impact on you? Have you offered to find them somewhere?

I used to have loads of amazing runs right on my doorstep so ran a fair bit. We recently moved and didn't consider running at all. The house is wonderful but the area is jsut devoid of anywhere that would be remotely good for a run over 10 minutes. I have to drive somewhere which means I haven't. Not run in months. It totally fi e for them to want to live bear to where they can do their hobby.

There are a billion places where you can run on and off road in the UK. You don’t need to travel all over the country to find one! By only giving you that one criteria, they’ve made it easier for you, not harder.

Your ILs need to engage the services of a property search agent (and pay them) or so their own research (online and in person) as PP have said

Unless they want hilly I’d suggest the new forest, loads of off road tracks. But maybe there is somewhere cheaper up North?

This is bonkers! They need to research areas themselves. If you feel like helpibg then do this, then you should do it by looking on the Internet, not by travelling around the country! Were they actually expecting you to travel round the country?!

This happened me - I had endless amazing running routes from my doorstep but moved to somewhere that has literally nowhere decent to run. Fast, twisty country roads with no pavements; hilly housing estates; the only bits of countryside near us are totally waterlogged and unusable from late autumn till late spring. I all but gave up on running in the end because it was just too soul destroying doing the same 5k route round the same housing estates over and over. Anything over 5k either involved driving elsewhere, doing multiple laps of the same soul destroying route, or taking your life into your hands on the twisty roads.

That said, I would never expect anyone else to be researching running routes for me. Tell them you wouldn't have a clue what to look for, nor the time to research it, and if that's a consideration they need to be looking into it themselves.
