Here’s my dilemma: I had a decent job, which - for various reasons, inc childcare costs - I gave up when I had kids. The job paid about £40,000 (late 2000s). I was an editor in central London. I’m now looking for a new full time job.
Unfortunately I’m not finding anything much and the only work I have is PT and pays about 6k/year (book editing). I’ve been doing this work since leaving my other job and throughout the time my 3 kids have been at primary. Fine at the time, since flexible. Not sustainable in the long term.
so my questions: is there anyone out there (especially anyone who has an arts background!) and has got a decently-paid job after a break - if so how? Or made a career change at this stage, and if so, into what?
I feel I need to break free of publishing, or understand how I can make better money as an editor or within comms.
