AIBU for going to the theatre when DH has covid?

DD is in a performance this Sunday. She's been working really hard on it for a good couple of months.

So of course DH has now tested positive for covid. He developed symptoms yesterday but tested negative. Tested positive today. Probably caught it from going to a gig earlier this week.

Obviously he can't go - but is it ok for me to go to the theatre?

I don't have any symptoms and I'm testing negative. He's been banished to a separate room and will stay there till he's negative.

YABU - for going to the theatre

YANBU - you definitely shouldn't go in case you're infectious despite testing negative

I'd go

Squareflair · 02/07/2022 12:55

I mean legally he could go, it's what you are comfortable with. Personally as long as I had no symptoms myself I would, I'd take an LFT if I had any left though.

bellac11 · 02/07/2022 12:55

I would go, people are vaccinated and life has to go on, people dont not go out because they have a cold.

Yes there are people who cant be vaccinated but their risk factor is the same for any virus thats doing the rounds that dont have a name, people dont know they have if they are asymptomatic etc

cheninblanc · 02/07/2022 12:56

I'd go. I did a uni visit with my eldest when my youngest was at home with covid. I wore a mask in really crowded areas and avoided talking to anyone, I stood back while my daughter did it

NoSquirrels · 02/07/2022 12:56

If you’re testing negative, then go and wear a mask.

SmileyPiuPiu · 02/07/2022 12:57

I'd take an lft just before you go and decide based on that

TheKeatingFive · 02/07/2022 12:58

I'd go, but I'm confused about your voting options

Just re-read - they don't make sense do they? 😁

YABU - don't go
YANBU - go

Dp had same this week, DD had been practicing a lot and I was gutted to miss it but no way was she having no one there with dp still negative and well.

Fruitteatime · 02/07/2022 13:21

So I would say go if your negative

BattenburgDonkey · 02/07/2022 13:21

Not surprised the voting results are 50/50 with the options you provided in your OP 😅

Id go.

Vikinga · 02/07/2022 13:21

Ha, now I'm not sure which way I needed to vote.

But I would treat it as pre covid. If unwell then don't go, if fine then go. Or if unwell, take some painkillers and wear a mask.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/07/2022 13:39

If you're feeling well then go. We don't stop life in case we're unwittingly carrying around any other illnesses.

MissisBoote · 02/07/2022 13:40

Thanks everyone - I'll go, masked up with a negative lft.

Ignore all the options 😂 Bloody brain fog 🤦‍♀️

I take a test, wear a mask and try and keep away from people.

Arenanewbie · 02/07/2022 14:01

yes, with mask on and keeping a bit away from people e.g I wouldn’t kiss and hug friends if you see them, just quick hello.

DaisyDreaming · 02/07/2022 14:04

I would take a test and wear a mask

TempNameChangexx · 02/07/2022 14:05

tbh I'd wear a mask even if your DH didn't have Covid.
As others have said, the rules don't actually prevent him going, which means you probably stand as much chance of catching it there as you do of passing it on to someone else while you're there.
(I caught it at a gig a few weeks ago so I'm back to wearing a mask and going out less while the numbers are increasing - I wasn't very well at all with it)

TempNameChangexx · 02/07/2022 14:07

(I wish there was an "Edit message" function!)
I meant that as people with Covid can go out without breaking the rules, there are bound to be people with Covid at the show (whether they know they've got it or not, most people aren't testing these days)

tomatopsste · 02/07/2022 14:20

YABU

Break a leg DD

toomuchlaundry · 02/07/2022 14:28

Does DD live with you?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 02/07/2022 14:30

Even with a confirmed case of covid your DP is under no obligation to stay at home or miss the theatre trip so considering you’re testing negative and symptom free I don’t know why you would think you couldn’t go.

The rules state that if you have covid you should try to stay home for 5 days (but it’s not compulsory) and should avoid vulnerable people for 10 days. If you don’t have covid you don’t need to do anything regardless of whether you have been a close contact, you can get on with your life.

Some people have a higher moral compass than the people making the laws @MolkosTeenageAngst

JemimaTheClimber · 02/07/2022 14:39

In this house, Ds1 developed some covid symptoms on Tuesday and tested with a very strong positive which showed immediately. The rest of us tested negative. Dh tested positive on Thursday with same symptoms as Ds. I tested negative on Thursday and Friday and then positive this morning despite us all wearing masks, separating as much as possible etc. My symptoms started yesterday afternoon but I was still testing negative at that point.

We are all vaccinated and boosted and honestly I have never felt this ill. If you do go then you should wear a mask as a precaution.

Herejustforthisone · 02/07/2022 14:41

Go. You don’t have Covid.
