To go back to the hospital because I’m in so much pain

Sorry to write another thread on this I just need some opinions on what to do and my old thread has died down.

I had my gallbladder out on Thursday, it was keyhole but they had to cut through two layers of scar tissue due to previous surgeries to remove my large bowel (inflammatory bowel disease).

I woke up in so much pain I was crying and was on strong pain relief for 6 hours which became dangerous when it severely slowed my breathing so they had to stop it.

They sent me home with cocodamol but the pain has been so bad, I can barely walk and it is agony just to lie down.

I have been given some tramadol instead but it’s not touching the sides. In fact it’s not doing anything.

I’m just not sure what to do or whether this is normal.

The pain is so so bad and I’m not sure what to do. Would I be unreasonable to go back to the hospital if it doesn’t calm down by the morning? Will they even do anything if I’ve already got tramadol? My mum has said I just need to deal with it but I’m not coping with it at all!

Im so glad you went in. I hope they admit you until they can sort it out properly. Are you still in pain or have they given you something to help. If they try and send you home with antibiotic pills, try using the phrase ‘im just not comfortable with that, what other options are there?’

Sending you best wishes.
hope they get to the bottom of this.

Glad you’re getting sorted. I got sepsis after my gallbladder removal. Not everyone has the same experience. Make sure they give you something that’s not anti inflammatory as we can’t take it with inflammatory bowel disease.

Hi everyone, they have admitted me for at least the next 24 hours and I have an ultrasound tomorrow as my infection markers are up. They’ve given me oramorph and paracetamol and I’m waiting on some fluids. Haven’t eaten all day I’m starving! Still in pain but the painkillers will hopefully kick in soon xx

I'm so glad you called! Take the opportunity to rest, take all the meds and food you can and hopefully you'll be able to sleep x

Hope you feel better soon OP (bet your mum feels a bit rubbish). Once you are sorted your life will be so much better without your GB - mine has been transformed.

I had to go back in after my op. I had a bile leak and was in agony. It was the worst pain ever. I'm so glad you went back. Don't let them send you home until you are out of pain and your infection markers are well down. Good luck OP. It's truly awful.

Glad that you are being looked after properly.

Yes, UK based. C section was 15 weeks ago today and hospital supplied one bottle only of the oramorph. I provided paracetamol and ibuprofen and on their advice used all 3 pain meds but ensured they were spaced out correctly.
