Strange because he's actually keen on women's rights

who knows. He’s a very interesting man who makes a lot of astute observations on society, many of which have merit. I think he’s right about young men and right about gender identity. The issue is more his fan base than him.

Yeah he really isn’t. Like anyone who is capable of critical thinking, some of his views will align with the views of other groups such as feminists, right wingers, MRAs.

He has many strong and well argued views and could probably start an argument with himself in a locked room just to come out on top, but that doesn’t mean he is “for” women. His assertion that young men need women to keep them civilised reduces women to role of support animals.

But in a purely animalistic sense, we are - we (largely) have been dependent on men for survival. Of course we both need each other to keep the species going; and as a civilised society the hindrances that come with being the child bearing sex must be kept to a minimum. But there’s always an animalistic/evolutionary/biological aspect to human psychology.

I quite like him. I don't agree with much of what he says but he's enjoyable to listen to. Always handy to know how the menz are thinking.😅

There's merit in some of the things he says.

His daughter has had an interesting life. How she has battled with her health issues is either crazy or inspiring.

Because the little I've seen of him makes me think he's a misogynistic dickhead.

he is one of these dangerous people who talks 80% 'sensible but bland' and 15% utter nonsense and maybe 5% something sensible. And there is no differentiation between them.

he puts much too much weight on evolutionary psychology, but at the same time pushes responsibility to the individual (your sort your life out) and not the system (discrimintation / lack of jobs / healthcare etc). Some people need the 'you sort your life out' message but for others it really doesn't help.

generally, he fits with right wing talking points and insults sensible scientists trying to do careful research.

Well that’s sort of self explanatory, if you haven’t seen much you’ve probably only seen the sensationalised parts.

He believes in biological sex (which I totally agree with him on) but thinks that the sex differences mean we should have specific sex based 'roles' (which is regressive bollocks).

However he is willing to stand up and fight for the biological science that he believes in against massive, and scary ideological oppression in Canada, and across the world via the internet, and for that I can respect him.

Because he is a massive misogynist? Beloved of incels? Supporter the view that women should be forced to marry incense to prevent them committing acts of violence?

He is absolutely odious and definitely not a supporter of women's rights.

Can you back any of that up though with specific quotes?

I feel sorry for him. I saw an interview once in which he was pompously opining and the interviewer suddenly asked: 'Are you happy?' Peterson just absolutely crumbled. He suddenly looked about 5 years old and as if he had lost his mother. It made me want to give him a hug. I think he is very insecure and his bravado is paper thin.

He’s very misunderstood. 99% of what he says is actually do to with Religion and Symbolism but I’m sure no one here listened to his 28h audiobook on that one 😉 xxx

Sure. It was in an interview where he was speaking about Alek Minassian.
"Violent attacks are what happens when men do not have partners, and society needs to work to make sure those men are married."“He was angry at God because women were rejecting him. The cure for that is enforced monogamy. That’s actually why monogamy emerges.”

He is a pretty troubled guy with a long history of severe mental health issues, who flip flops around causes depending on what resonates with followers and paying subscribers

The brilliant podcast Maintenance phase did a 2 part on him, specifically about his promotion of the ‘carnivore diet’ but it covers a lot of his odious views on women, race, minorities, and his fondness for Russia

He believes in enforced monogamy, and that it is up to women to solve the problems of male violence and incels, for a start

I quite like him. I think his reputation suffers from people who take short clips of him out of context and post them in their own Youtube channels. On occasion I've watched one of these videos that has been posted with a title claiming he has said something that would offend everyone here, and found what he says is nothing like the title claim. Not just that he has a different shade of opinion, but that he isn't even talking about the subject he's alleged to have expressed an extreme opinion on. So I would definitely not judge him by the titles of videos other people post, as quite often, he hasn't said anything like what the titles claim he said.

I do think his popularity means he's in danger of crossing outside his area of expertise. I've not bothered to watch videos where he (apparently) is talking about economic or climate change issues. Although, who knows, maybe he isn't, and it's just propagandists posting titles that claim he supports some view of theirs, and if I actually watched, I'd find he was talking about something completely unrelated.
