…to not raise a grievance against rubbish manager?

I work in an admin post in the care industry, where like many, I have a boss. A boss who’s a bit of a bimbo.

My lovely colleague (a carer) wishes for me to support a grievance she’d like to raise re above manager.

Nothing major in safeguarding etc, just that the manger is useless at her job; a little rude and condescending to other employees (not service users) and doesn’t really listen. She also takes credit for our good ideas yet throws us to the wolves when we’ve fucked up (ie fails to support us).

The problem is, I don’t really want to support this complaint as quite frankly, I can’t be arsed to do so. I don’t think anything would come of it, have my own personal problems and am thinking about leaving anyway.

What to do? If I’m being honest, I’m also a bit of a coward and would hate for the manager to know I was involved in this. I’m not the kind of person who wants to get someone else in trouble, and again, I just can’t be arsed with the whole thing.

You lost my entire support when you described your manager as a bimbo.

You don't want to be involved, you want to leave - don't be involved and leave. Simples.

rwalker · 01/07/2022 21:52

It all sounds a bit to general for a grievance . The person in charge is never going to be popular the fact you call her a bimbo sounds more about the fact you don't like her rather than her work skills .

ElizaJones · 01/07/2022 21:53

Yeah, the minute you said bimbo you lost me.

Gazelda · 01/07/2022 21:54

Just tell your colleague you're keeping your head down and getting on with your work. You don't want to be involved with initiating a grievance, but would participate in any investigative interview if necessary.

And don't refer to your boss (or anyone) as a bimbo.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/07/2022 21:56

Wow 🙄

Mememene · 01/07/2022 21:57

I wouldn't get involved - if she has a grievance let her lodge it, unless you agree and it would also make your worklife better.

NellesVilla · 01/07/2022 21:59

I’m really surprised at the anger towards my use of the word bimbo; another colleague refers to this manager in this way and I’ve got used to hearing it, I suppose. I’ve never actually used this in a sentence before!

And you’re not wrong, @Gazelda .

Is a horrible, misogynistic word.

NellesVilla · 01/07/2022 22:04

But what manager wears white stilettos, a mini skirt, and a boob tube to a team meeting?

Troll alert. How are your activities at M & S going

Does seem a little under dressed to be honest.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 01/07/2022 22:06

Ok then

NellesVilla · 01/07/2022 22:07

Sorry, my last message was meant to be in a text to someone and I accidentally copied and pasted it to this page.

Your clothes do not dictate your level of professionalism and I support her choices in clothing for the workplace.

White stilettos ? Doubtful

yeah - and the pope is not catholic, and bears dont shit in the woods....

DomPerignon12 · 01/07/2022 22:21

I don’t like the word bimbo but workplaces should be professional. People are hardly going to not notice if say a man wears shorts and Hawaiian t-shirts in a professional environment.

NellesVilla · 01/07/2022 22:23

Hi @DomPerignon12 , I honestly didn’t think bimbo was such a terrible word. This woman’s own partner uses it for her, albeit in an affectionate way I guess. Other colleagues use it for her all the time.

Fwiw, this manager once came in wearing her line-dancing outfit (Stetson et al) so I secretly think she’s a good sport.

Your workplace sounds toxic and sexist.

be careful about jumping on this bandwagon.

Bimbo of course a sexist term. You seem focused on this woman’s appearance and fashion sense (which sounds very odd for the workplace, but it is not for subordinates to enforce a dress code on their manager).

go with your instincts on the grievance. Disliking someone is no reason to raise a grievance. There doesn’t appear to be grounds and it will all turn very sour very fast.

i think everyone could do with being a bit more professional - it sounds a bit like the office in the nine to five movie.

I think the less you say, the better off you are, @NellesVilla
As far as “bimbo” goes, that says far more about you than it does about her.
So does the “accidental” post.
There’s nothing “secretly” about you, is there. I’m beginning to think you’re the instigator, and looking for people to convince you’re right about filing this grievance.
How does one “accidentally paste” something, anyhow?

Btw — “Well, they said it.” Are you 10?
