GP's! What would you like?

Fortunately I don't need to see my GP very often, but on the occasions that I have I have felt listened to, my concerns addressed and my health improved. I am seeing/hearing so much bad press around GPs at the moment and I can imagine if you are a GP it just feels like a constant bashing (I'd rather this thread didn't turn into whether that is justified or not).

I have a routine check appointment next week and I'd like to take my GP a small token of gratitude; I'm thinking a box of biscuits, or a coffee from the independent café next door to the surgery. Just a little something to say thanks, and that I appreciate them.

  1. Is this appropriate
  2. What would you suggest? Is the coffee or biscuits idea OK?

I just feel very grateful for the help I've received from my GP and would like to express this, in-line with the boundaries and rules as to what is acceptable! I feel they could really do with little "pick me ups" along the road right now.
Thanks x

I'm not a GP but my local surgery likes cards they can have pinned up.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 01/07/2022 18:58

I wouldn't take coffee.Tins of biscuits /hand creams/ card saying you appreciate them.Receptionists get a rough deal too so enough biscuits for the team.Anything edible ideally sealed so no fruit bowls.

HSKAT · 01/07/2022 19:03

I agree no to the coffee, biscuits or sweets will be more than appreciated

Johnnysgirl · 01/07/2022 19:12

I'd imagine they'd think it was quite odd to get a gift from someone with a routine appointment?

supersonicspider · 01/07/2022 19:15

No that would be weird. Just thank them and tell them they've helped you.

Nope, not at all. OP I'd say no to the coffee but yes to a box of chocolates/biscuits, but more so a card is a lovely touch.

Winkydink · 01/07/2022 19:16

I wrote a card saying thank you after a very challenging period and the GP was so moved she called me after her shift!

Cheesybiscuits01 · 01/07/2022 19:18

A card they can keep for appraisals or the end of a crappy day. I gave my own GP a card and chocolates once. When I saw her again about 2-3 years later she thanked me for the card. It really means a lot.

Musicaltheatremum · 01/07/2022 19:26

After the day I've had gin is the only solution 🤣🤣 but coffee is fine (not filter just a good brand) tbags biscuits chocolates (they will go in an afternoon) but cards are great too.

Ireolu · 01/07/2022 19:51

Write a card if you have a specific GP to thank and it can go in their appraisal in the compliments section.
Boxes of chocolate and biscuits go down well with staff too.

littlejellyfish · 01/07/2022 19:54

Honestly and truthfully, just a card :)

MammaWeasel · 01/07/2022 20:11

What a lovely idea. Whatever you give, give a card too

Our staff kitchen quite often has tins of sweets or boxes of biscuits from appreciative patients. They are always gratefully received and the little cards & thank you notes are pinned to the staff notice board.

Frenzi · 01/07/2022 20:25

I work for a GP surgery and we love boxes of biscuits, chocolates and fruit. We have some patients who bring us in home made cakes and sausage rolls. They keep us going on stressful days!

A card would also be very welcome - we keep all the cards from patients for a couple of years -they get pinned to the notice board in the kitchen. They are very much appreciated.

We have one patient who knows how much we all love M&S colin caterpillar cakes. Whenever she sees any on offer she buys them and drops them in to us.

It really is very much appreciated.

Johnnysgirl · 01/07/2022 20:45

I hope the home bakers aren't seeing you about anything infectious...
Of all people to accept a homemade sausage roll from, a patient in a doctor's surgery would be the last on my list 🤣

Albgo · 01/07/2022 20:59

Honestly just an email saying thank you is enough.

passport123 · 01/07/2022 21:00

Any of those are nice but a well written card saying what you appreciate is the best

Tigerteafor3 · 01/07/2022 21:09

Written card, box of biscuits always goes down well.

I had a very scary experience a few years ago and the doctors and receptionists saved my life. We did the above and GP asked if I would write a review on their Google reviews - people only write bad reviews and it makes a really excellent surgery look bad.

leotardrock · 02/07/2022 16:36

The last time the Mail were having a go at GO's I sent my practice a card!

They were absolutely brilliant when I had Covid - checked I had someone to pick up the prescription & telephoned 3 days later to make sure I was feeling better!

I know I'm lucky to have such a great Surgery so I told them so!

tvod2244 · 04/07/2022 10:57

Thanks everyone, really helpful! I think a card and some nice biscuits for the practice staff to share will be what I go for 😊
Many thanks xx
