Can’t get travel insurance for minor reason

I have very light (almost non existent) periods so got referred for a pelvic ultrasound plus blood tests to check hormonal levels. Still waiting for pelvic ultrasound and blood test results and they wont be available for 1-2 weeks. I’m due to the US on Wednesday for a two week family holiday but I now can’t get travel insurance because I’m “under investigation without a diagnosis”. I think I would be mad to travel to the US without travel insurance where a stint in hospital could bankrupt us.

AIBU to think I should stay home? This is my first holiday since 2019 and just feels so unfair, all because of light periods :(

these say they insure when waiting for investigations? There will be others. DH once had to pay £250 for insurance to America due to health things but we wouldn’t consider going without it. Someone will be able to insure you.

try another insurer some might let you exclude it

Lolliesareonme · 01/07/2022 17:17

This company is really good, you will definitely get some with them.

Try Staysure. They may not cover you for anything arising from the thing you’re being investigated for but could insure the normal stuff eg: luggage, delays etc.

Try insurefor dot com I recently got cover despite being under investigation without a diagnosis

Singinghollybob · 01/07/2022 17:20

I've just bought insurance with Stay Sure even though I'm waiting blood results, they've excluded that condition but otherwise I'm covered.

Blondeissimo · 01/07/2022 17:22

Can recommend All Clear. They'll probably exclude anything relating to your conditions / undiagnosed conditions but I don't think I'd travel to the US without insurance.

Darcy101 · 01/07/2022 17:28

Another fan of AllClear and they were great at paying out when I had to claim

Wildeheart · 01/07/2022 22:19

Thank you, I will try them as the other insurers only provide cover if there’s a diagnosis

Thanks for the pointers everyone. Feeling like maybe there’s a chance I will find an insurer after all. Main problem I have is that I don’t yet have a diagnosis so some of the insurers listed won’t provide cover but I’ll go through all of the suggested ones and hopefully found one that will cover me.

Good luck. No, I definitely would not go to the US without cover.

Lolacat1234 · 01/07/2022 23:26

Don't go without any cover in place at all. You should be able to find an insurance that covers all the usual and can exclude anything relating to the condition you are under investigation for. You could try AXA Health travel. I used to work for them and there were no exclusions on the policies as long as you are medically fit to travel. It was an annual policy though but quite reasonable.

Nutrinerd · 01/07/2022 23:47

I would warn against AllClear - they’ve changed their outsourced assistance provider since I Iast claimed with them (when they were brilliant) and have had a recent awful experience with them.
There seem to be a lot more providers nowadays that will provide cover for people with pre-existing conditions, though as mentioned by others they are likely to exclude the condition under investigation. Some of the travel insurance provided by banks is actually really good and worth checking what you may have with any accounts - HSBC premier will cover certain pre-existing conditions and provides phenomenal medical assistance.

Yespresh · 01/07/2022 23:49

If you have private medical insurance they may well cover you. Mine did.

maryleboneym · 02/07/2022 11:14

You can definitely get insurance but it may cost a few hundred

clippety clop · 02/07/2022 13:00

Try All Clear insurance.

I was waiting for elective botox injections to round my bladder to assist with birth injury caused stress incontinence and because of that they said they could not cover me for any pre-exisitng conditions including asthma - I mean what on earth has my asthma got to do with that? Would be happy for them to say they can't cover me for stress incontinence, but the rest was ridiculous.
