How do I get rid of spare carpet?

Carpet fitters ended up leaving a lot of spare carpet and I don't know how to get rid of it. I don't have a car so can't get rid of it that way.. Its just been sitting in my living room the past few days
I tried Facebook Marketplace but I live outside of the city so no one could come up to me

Give it away free on Facebook local as opposed to market place. Or line your cupboards with off cuts, add it on top of loft insulation for a bit more insulation! Ditto wrap it around pipes for lagging. Use as weed suppressant on vegetable beds etc. use smaller bits as door mats or car footwell mats. Turned carpet side outwards, you can use instead of a moss liner for hanging baskets.

Does any local Facebook pages do 'dump runs' or man with a van type thing.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 01/07/2022 13:28

Or cut into small bits and in the black bin for collection. Or have a good clear out and hire a man with a van to skip it for you.
(sorry just saw you don’t have a car)

Offer it for free on freegle someone will want it!

Either use it as a previous poster suggested, give it away, cut it down and put in the bin or phone the carpet fitters and ask them to dispose of the waste materials as they should.

I have used it to carpet my bathroom in the past (very 1980s) and it lasts about a year before getting really manky. I have also used it to carpet cupboards. I was disappointed that with my last carpet there was hardly any waste only a few scraps that I couldn't use for anything.

If it is a decent piece, you may find that someone is willing to pick it up unless you really live in the middle of nowhere. As well as facebook there is gumtree. I also got rid of an old carpet with very little wear through an organisation that helps formerly homeless people set up home.

You could keep a small portion incase of repairs - such as a burn mark or stubborn stain.

AnotherForumUser · 01/07/2022 14:22

You could freecycle or freegle it.

LouisRenault · 01/07/2022 14:24

When I had some leftover carpet, I put it outside my front door with a 'help yourself' sign. It was gone in an hour. But I live on a street in a town with people going past all the time. Might not work if you're in a very quiet place.

Have a look for your local allotments, it's used for weed control so they will often be grateful and collect it.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 01/07/2022 14:43

Contact dog rescues, sometimes they use carpet squares for indoor kennels.

DimplesToadfoot · 01/07/2022 14:45

Offer it on FB, carpet works great outside under paddling pools, it's just the right time of year and weather for getting rid :-)

What I do with used carpet is cut it up into squares, leave it in a pile and fill the wheely bin up with them the night before they go out to be emptied, it might take a few goes but it works.

Bilboard · 02/07/2022 04:34

Put it by your bin on bin day, they might take it

This is true, lots of the older allotmenteers use it but my plot contract has banned it due to plastic in the backing. But lots still use it to cover compost heaps to keep the heat in so worth putting 'allotment' in your item title.

Yes I had a woman collect for this reason, and a man used the underlay for his husky training school.

I sympathise OP, I live in a city centre flat with no car and getting rid of stuff is a nightmare.
