My bin is full and I still have a lot of rubbish, could I put it in my other bins that are empty?

I feel so dumb writing this but I'm actually feeling stressed. I 18f just moved in and the previous tenant had the waste bin nearly full and the bins don't get taken out for another 2 or 3 weeks... I still have 2 black bags that need to be emptied but my black bin is full. In the meantime could I bin my black bags in the recycling bin? I can't have the rubbish in my house.. I wouldn't keep the black bags in the other bins, as soon as my black bin gets emptied I'll take those 2 black bags out of my recycling bin and put it in my black bin

Yes of course that's fine, as you will move them out before the recycling day.

Jellifer · 30/06/2022 10:03

I guess it depends if the recycling bin is due to be emptied soon or not?

Honeyroar · 30/06/2022 10:05

Yes if you’re just storing them there until they can be put into the correct bin. But won’t you need those bibs for your recycling? I’d just nip them to the tip.

Whaleandsnail6 · 30/06/2022 10:05

Yes I do this often if I have many bags until I have chance to get to the tip

I don't have a car) :

Do you have any friends or family with a car that could take you to the recycling centre/tip

funinthesun19 · 30/06/2022 10:07

I’ve done this in the past. Also, I’ve used a private company to empty my waste bin a couple of times in the past when it’s been full - think I paid about a tenner. I know you shouldn’t have to pay though as it’s the previous tenant’s rubbish! Could your landlord pay to have it emptied seeing as they’ve knowingly rented out a property which has a bin full to the brim?

Northernsoullover · 30/06/2022 10:08

Ring your council they may have some way of helping get rid of excess.Mine charges 2 quid per bag. They do not promote this service and I only found out by chance. We can't take general waste to the tip.

‘Nip themto the tip’ is considerably easier in some areas than others. Our tip is basically inaccessible without a car.
the council may do you an extra collection and explain. They might take the whole lot so you’re ahead :)

TempName01 · 30/06/2022 10:10

Yes that’s fine, I would also maybe ask your neighbours if they have room in their bin for a bag on collection day

purplecorkheart · 30/06/2022 10:13

That is fine as long as the recycling bin is not accessible if a recycling collection comes. I would ring the council and explain your situation as they may offer a service for excess waste.

womaninatightspot · 30/06/2022 10:15

I do this all the time. I have a bin for food waste that I don't use so store excess black bags in there until bin is emptied.

Portonic · 30/06/2022 10:26

I do this all the time. I also ask neighbours on collection day, if they have space, would they mind me putting a bag into their bin. I've lived here a while so I know my neighbours well enough to ask.... but it could be a way for you to get to know your neighbours. They might be horrible... but they might turn out to be diamond- and it's great to have good neighbours, for all sorts of reasons.

Saladd0dger · 30/06/2022 10:27

Phone the council and explain the previous tenants left the bin full. They might empty it for you

Hallyup89 · 30/06/2022 10:32

Of course you can, as long as there is no chance of it being picked up inadvertently by the recycling lorry.
