About sick note?

I have been off work for a week now and I rang the GP about getting a note for the rest of the week, possibly next week. I only spoke to the receptionist and she issued a note pretty promptly but the reason on the note looks a bit off. The equivalent would be putting ‘a bit sad’ for ‘depression’ I suppose.

Not sure if I can get it changed, or even if I should?

My sick notes for depression have always said "low mood" (fucking understatement).

I think we need to know what it actually says to judge but you'd be within your rights to ask them to amend it - I've asked them to amend dates etc before.

I injured my arm last year and was off work for some considerable time and my sick notes just said ‘sore arm’!! To be fair, it did take most of the time I was off to get a diagnosis of it so they couldn’t put anything specific!

That’s almost exactly what’s happened to me @PaperMonster , just a different area of the body!

My DS is currently signed off with "low mood" following a bereavement.

GP explained that he didn't think it was fair to call it depression as it's as a result of a defined event and will pass, rather than a life long condition. I thought that was quite helpful for DS to hear, rather than be labelled as someone who suffers with depression.

It's important for your sicknote to accurately convey your ailment as I have experienced bosses who refuse to pay SSP if they aren't happy with the reason for sick leave, it's still ongoing now. I hope you speak to the receptionist or GP today if you can Op.

If you haven't got a diagnosis they can only describe the complaint. If you have got one and they've not used it, then yes ask for a correction
