Colleague at work is leaving in 2 weeks. Collection has been started by another colleague who has now been signed off sick for 2 weeks. I've been asked by email to take over the collection. Tbh I've done my fair share in the past and I find them a pain. As we don't really work together as a team it's hard to get money off anyone and even if you send a team email out with your bank details it largely goes ignored so you either end up with a few quid or have to spend time chasing people, time which I don't have. Then you have to go and buy the present! I don't even know the person very well. WIBU to politely refuse?

Who has asked you? The person off sick or your manager?

Just say 'sorry wouldn't like to commit to that just now as I'm not sure I'll have the chance to get out to buy the gift. Sure you'll manage to find someone else.'

This, am never doing a collection or putting money in for anyone again. It's a nightmare!!

'Actually I didn't want to say anything yet, but I don't feel too well myself. Best you ask someone else in case I end up off sick too".
