To speak to doctor about this for my toddler? In need of advice!

morning all

Morning all

my toddler has woken up with these red blotches on his upper arms and feet! 2 weeks ago he had 4 pimples appear on his arm lower down, very small ones, and since then had maybe one or two pimple type spots on his other arm, hand and foot that then turned into tiny scab heads. As the spots weren’t blistering or anything and there were no other spots / the spread of spots weren’t rapid over body I didn’t think it was chicken pox. None on chest and back either. Spoke to GP yesterday who thought viral.

however this morning it now looks like this and I’m so worried! Could this be chicken pox even with the slow spread of it over 2 weeks? Although this morning is the most drastic it’s ever looked. His face looks like it may be going blotchy too.

thing is I’m 40+3 pregnant due to give birth any day now so I’m also worried about that. I have had chicken pox before as a child.

what should I do? Does this look like chicken pox, WIBU to call GP?

Those don't look like chicken pox at all - get him seen to be checked out.

RelocationNightmare · 30/06/2022 07:38

They look like insect bites to me.

SmallElephants · 30/06/2022 07:40

Definitely not chicken pox but I have no idea what it is. Could it be mosquito bites he has reacted badly to?

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/06/2022 07:40

That’s not chicken pox. And yes to calling the GP.

DontLikeCoffee · 30/06/2022 07:41

ChatterMonkey · 30/06/2022 07:41

Do you have pets? Looks like flea bites.

HotChocolate16 · 30/06/2022 07:58

He’s at nursery all week full time. We don’t spend loads of time in the garden, he pretty much always has socks on too so I’m confused how insects would get to him!

we are staying at in laws currently who have a cat whilst we do up our house. But the cat mainly stays in the side part of the house / garage and outside. Isn’t allowed into the house and my son is very rarely around her. Nobody else has bites either and we are all at home more!

Nothing like chicken pox.Does look like bites and insects can get into clothes and bite. If not bites, then something else. Might be a good idea to see pharmacist.

Crazyhousewife · 30/06/2022 08:08

Ask your gp as I’ve not seen a rash like that. I don’t think it’s flea bites either. I would ring up and say it’s been a previous problem that has now got worse and they should fit you in. Let them know you have photos as they will have you send them over and then normally book an appointment straight away.

SmileyPiuPiu · 30/06/2022 08:09

I would phone and speak to the receptionist they might ask you to bring child in. Or at the least go and shoe the marks to a pharmacist.

User839516 · 30/06/2022 08:09

Definitely not chicken pox and also chicken pox is only dangerous to pregnant women if they’ve never had it before. Agree they look like bites. Fleas? Bed bugs?

Yes good idea re photos

Weirdly a family member has just had a similar rash after having shingles. Doc wasn't sure what it was and sending for bloods. Doesn't help you much but weird to see another rash similar as I'd never seen anything like it.

HotChocolate16 · 30/06/2022 08:18

i’ve got the doctor calling me this morning and I’ve sent photos in preparation for the appointment. I’m so worried it looks horrible and scary and being about to give birth any day now!

could it be scabies?

OP posts:
HotChocolate16 · 30/06/2022 08:20

He actually did have one of these patches 2 weeks ago, and it came to a head and then had a tiny scab on then disappeared. These feel the same , they have a small smooth bump in the middle so I think they’ll come to a head and get a tiny scab too

They look like flea bites, probably from the cat. Even though the cat is in another part of the house now it may have been where DD been and left the fleas behind, fleas are tricky little things, they are jump further than you think, they can hide in crevices, at the edge of skirtings, in carpets, they lay eggs and now the warmer weather is here they hatch and latch onto the first warm blooded creature that comes near.
We’ve never had a cat yet within a month or two of moving into a new (to us) house my two year old dd came out in what I thought was hives, mostly on her lower legs, then the rest of us did. But dd was the worst affected. I took her to our gp who said immediately “flea bites, get the cat treated” I replied “ We haven’t got a cat” He told me all of the above an told me to examine the house and report back to him. . I did so and saw the little buggers having a party under the radiators, We’d moved I in the early autumn when the radiators were off, it got colder a few weeks later so we’d turned the heating back on and woke the little buggers up. The infestation was so bad the GP arranged for the house to be fumigated, It turned out the previous owners had had two cats.
So consider flea bites.

ElegantlyTouched · 30/06/2022 08:23

Looks like midge/gnat bites. I react like that.

If the cat hasn’t been treated for fleas ( Frontline type stuff) then there could well be fleas living in carpets, soft furnishings. In mild weather they spread ( and breed) very quickly. If you can’t see GP and Pharmacist might be able to diagnose it. But I’d definitely get it looked at.

DistrictCommissioner · 30/06/2022 08:26

They look like flea or insect bites to me. We’ve just had an infestation, out of the 5 of us in the house only DH seems to get bitten (or seems to react to the bites) so I wouldn’t rule it out that it’s just him.

Thinkingblonde · 30/06/2022 08:30

Just seen your update, that’s what happened to us, same thing, a bump, redness, itchiness, a watery blister, which scabs over. . The it also happened when we stayed in a Shepherds hut on a farm with free range chickens running about . The chickens had fleas.

SingingSands · 30/06/2022 08:32

That's not a rash - those are flea bites. I've just had the same! They will be incredibly itchy so getting some piriton in will be handy. Once you scratch/rub them it's hard to stop.

There's a good product you can get on Amazon called Indorex. Spray liberally around the room - on soft furnishings and around edges of carpets. Make sure room is well ventilated and leave it for a few hours.

Sorry OP, they're buggers to treat but the Indorex is very effective, I've not had another bite since I treated my house.

Welshwaynetta · 30/06/2022 08:37

Looks to me more like mosquito/ midge bites.
do you live near a forest/ body of water ?
