School disco just 45 minutes long?

This isn’t a big deal, my DD can’t even make that Friday BUT the school disco is just 45 minutes long?
is this what they’re doing now?
I know my kids before covid (different school) used to have around a couple of a hours per key stage

and yes yes I know it’s awkward when you have kids in both key stages and the poor old teachers etc etc but 45 minutes is hardly worth the drive. Or the £3

So how much extra unpaid overtime would you like the school staff to do?

Maybe they should just stop doing all the extras if parents STILL moan about it.

PlasticOrchid · 29/06/2022 20:05

Ours is an hour. Believe me, an hour is a veeeeery long time.

ElizaJones · 29/06/2022 20:05

How much of the 45 minutes are you volunteering for?

Incognitomum11 · 29/06/2022 20:06

I don’t see spiky of them doing it AT ALL if they’re gonna do it half ar**d

Incognitomum11 · 29/06/2022 20:06

Haha don’t want them doing it AT ALL

Sounds plenty long enough. Kids get hyper and bounce around for 45 minutes, they'll be knackered.

DockOTheBay · 29/06/2022 20:07

I guess the people who think that just won't attend.

Wednesdayafternoon · 29/06/2022 20:08

I was shocked when my sons disco was 45 mins too!
He told me he went on and had a hot dog and played two games and then it was over 😂
Poor little thing, he wanted to partaaayyyyy (he's 5 😅)

Incognitomum11 · 29/06/2022 20:09

I don’t see why anyone would attend unless your child was in reception where 45 minutes might feel long. My kids would be super disappointed if I took them to something like this. Waste of time

@Wednesdayafternoon yessss exactly this. So short awww

OP posts:
rosesinmygarden · 29/06/2022 20:10

Maybe volunteer to help so it can be longer...

Assuming the staff are 'volunteering' to run it (no doubt unpaid) then maybe it's short because they are running out of goodwill and fed up of giving up their free/family time for ungrateful kids sbd parents.

mamaduckbone · 29/06/2022 20:11

Maybe you should join the PTA and volunteer to support the school rather than complaining about it?

Schmz · 29/06/2022 20:13

Wow - how ungrateful !!!!

all provided by volunteers !!!

45 mins for the kids
lot longer for the volunteers with all the work that goes into these events !!

Norden · 29/06/2022 20:13

Have you ever volunteered at one of those? I worked in the kitchen serving up hot dogs and pizza. Sweaty work but was great to see the kids having fun.
45 minutes is quite short though as I imagine there'll be hours to set things up, is it worth it etc etc etc
IIRC we used to do half an hour disco, food, another half hour dancing. Kids knackered afterwards but loved it.

spanishsummers · 29/06/2022 20:14

There honestly should be a mini-delete button so you don't need to see posts on threads from the passive aggressive. Not only is it spiteful, it's lazy, because once one starts, a few pile in.

I think an hour would be better, but most young ones can't take too long, especially in the evening.

WinterMusings · 29/06/2022 20:15

@Incognitomum11 it does seem very short! Hardly worth the teachers/volunteers ruining an evening over either?

Sherrystrull · 29/06/2022 20:18

I've done them as PTA and as school
Staff. They're hard work and thankless. Posts like yours are one of the reasons I will no longer volunteer for such things.

lioncitygirl · 29/06/2022 20:20

Ours is even shorter but it’s fine! The kids have fun.

I8toys · 29/06/2022 20:28

Good god they are a nightmare! They all take their shoes off and you're trying to match someone with their bag, jumper, cardigan, shoes etc etc at the end when the parents rock up. I remember having to help one little girl with her tights poor thing. Be grateful.

balalake · 29/06/2022 20:54

The comments about the difficulties of organising and managing such an event are well made, and it is a thankless task. I think no disco would be a better choice.

And the KS1 girls who turn up in heels so high that they can barely walk in them! Our biggest use of the first aiders was for blisters and twisted ankles caused by unsuitable footwear.

Seems like a lot of effort and hard work for 45 minutes. YANBU @Incognitomum11 2 hours would have been better.

I agree with @spanishsummers ignore the rude, passive-aggressive 'OMG you are soooo ungrateful' and 'what are YOU volunteering for?' type comments. They are totally unnecessary.

SnowyLamb · 29/06/2022 21:17

Surely you must take them to loads of things that are c. 45 mins and cost a lot more than £3. Swimming lessons, music, dance, sport?

They're aren't unnecessary at all. People are speaking from experience.

I personally hate when people criticise things that are run by volunteers while simultaneously refusing to help out.

Not even remotely good examples.
