AIBU to hate the concept of fast passes?

Hi, we went to a theme park recently and purchased fast passes. I will never do it again. It felt so wrong for my kids to walk past people in the other queue and take priority because we had paid extra. My husband thinks I am being ridiculous. AIBU?

what did you expect a fast pass wild involve when you purchased?

it seems to me that your problem was with the fact that you had to walk past people queuing to enjoy the benefit of the fast pass.

whereas if they’d been a sneaky and discreet side entrance… you’d have bloody loved it!

Offering half price tickets through cereal boxes is bizarre, when they're so busy that you need to pay extra to actually get on the rides.

I can't even really understand the financial model for it. Surely they'd be better not discounting tickets to half price and even putting the base price up a bit and then offering less fast passes.

Or is it about people spending on the ghastly fast food once they're in the place ?

They aren’t really half price tickets, they are the actual price they would charge but people think they are getting a deal cus they getting in half price. The reality is no one or very few pay full price

They're not even half price really.

Thorpe Tickets are £37 each but with the Kelloggs code, they're £30.

Fast passes mean that everyone else queues longer. They leave a bit of a bad taste in the mouth for me. There are limited number of rides goes per day and the theme parks are overbooking, TBH.

This isn't necessarily the case. Assuming the theme park owners are going to make the same profit, the extra money the fast passes generate could lead to more rides or other facilities that everyone can use to a greater extent than the extra ride slots they use. The park's alternatives would be to put up the ticket prices for everyone or lower expenses somehow - such as running fewer rides, increasing the added extras, etc.

I don't think fast passes are great for social cohesion, but the idea that if they weren't there the only change to the park experience for everyone else would be slightly faster regular queues seems highly unlikely.
