Am I a cow

schratching · 29/06/2022 06:07

My kids are brilliant but I am so ready for my twins to go to school.

I've managed to secure full time work and I can't wait 🙈. I feel like a bad mum but between lockdown and deciding to work part time; I am sick of Peppa Pig, tantrums, the constant touching and everything else.

I have zero patience and just feel like a grumpy cow sometimes.

My friend said she enjoyed lockdown the other day. She wasn't ready for them to go to school. And I felt like an even bigger cow.

No you’re not, and I bet they’re ready for the new challenge of school too. You’re all moving in in life, like you should.

MangoBiscuit · 29/06/2022 06:12

Well done getting your new job!

Not having infinite patience, and being ready for the next stage of your lives does not make you a cow.

schratching · 29/06/2022 06:14

Thank you 🥲. I've not been congratulated by mil.

God no. Those parents crying because their kid is starting school? Not me. Mine was ready to go well before her time. We’ve just had two inset days and I was so jaded

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 29/06/2022 06:30

Definitely not a cow! I think it’s entirely healthy to be ready for the next stage and to regain your own life. Your friend is allowed to feel the way she does too, don’t compare. As for MIL, don’t even go there!

ChimChimeny · 29/06/2022 06:36

Not a cow at all! you have TWINS! Work will be a doddle in comparison 😁i couldn't wait to go back to work

PeanutButterOnToad · 29/06/2022 06:38

You sound perfectly sane and normal to me and not a cow at all. Congratulations on the job. I look after my 2yo granddaughter one day a week and for the last few hours in the afternoon I am literally counting the minutes until she is picked up (though to be fair she is dropped off very early). Absolutely adore her but boy are small kids hard work.

Wasn't expecting this post to make me cry.

I have 2 kids and had a year off with each but I was well ready to get back to work and adult company

Your not a cow at all, your paving your career out and will be a brilliant role model for your twins and they will love being with other children too

I'll be honest I find being at home with them harder than work!

Congratulations on your job x

Doingmybest12 · 29/06/2022 07:38

I felt only pride when I dropped mine at school, I felt it was an achievement to get them through the baby years and ready for the next stage. Congratulations on your job too. Don't let the others get to you.

RewildingAmbridge · 29/06/2022 07:41

Christ I was ready to go back after a year of mat leave! I love my son and I'm a very involved parent, but I need my job to exercise my brain and give me adult interactions. No one ever raises an eyebrow about a father working.

SmileyPiuPiu · 29/06/2022 07:44

Sounds perfectly normal to me. You're not just "mum".
Congratulations on the job.

Oddsocks55 · 29/06/2022 07:49

Congratulations on your job!

Lockdown must have been so difficult for you with two small ones who still very much rely on you for everything. I am one of those who enjoyed lockdown but my children are older so were pretty self sufficient when they needed to be which really took the pressure off us. I would have found it so hard trying to look after younger ones without playgroups and support from other friends and family.

Well done you, and enjoy this next chapter!

Moodycow78 · 29/06/2022 07:50

I have twin toddlers and feel exactly the same, I don't feel guilty though 🤣😂 I really am a cow xx

Throwawaytoday · 29/06/2022 07:55

Even a four-day weekend with DD(5) is much harder than the equivalent time working.

And I have a high-stress job.

I adore DD, she's brilliant, funny, smart, interesting, creative... but she is also 5... and children are TIRING.

schratching · 29/06/2022 08:19

@Moodycow78 😂👋🏻

When my triplets started school, I literally danced out of the school gates! How you feel is your business.

Vallmo47 · 29/06/2022 09:01

Neither feeling is right or wrong OP. :)

WhatsWithAllTheCarrots · 29/06/2022 09:07

I'm so glad you posted OP, so that you can see how normal your feelings are! I am a MUCH better parent for having my children in school and nursery and being able to work 4 days a week. I'm an ex-teacher and teachng my eldest during lockdown was a nightmare. Give me 30 of someone else's children to teach any day of the week, but one of my own and I'm useless 😂

Also, when my eldest started school (also during Covid), my friend and I watched our kids walk in together and then she punched the air and said (quietly!) 'YESSSSSSS!' You're definitely not alone 😂

10HailMarys · 29/06/2022 12:34

My friend is a nurse on a very busy hospital ward for extremely sick and vulnerable patients with life-threatening and terminal conditions. When she went back to work after a year of mat leave I said 'Does it feel really stressful being back in the environment after a year at home?' and she said 'Good god, no ... it's only when I'm at work when I actually know what I'm doing.'

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 29/06/2022 12:38

I would think you weren't human if you didn't feel this way!!! 😂

Children are wonderful gifts from God, but OMG they can be hard work sometimes. 😬😩 Especially up to 5-6 years old ... Gets easier and better after that, (although teen years bring new challenges.) 😆 Enjoy your new job! and congratulations!!! 😁

Marvellousmadness · 29/06/2022 13:47

You are not a cow
You are a mum. 😅

Spani · 29/06/2022 13:53

Absolutely not. When my DS was six months old, I was very ready for him to go to nursery - it was best for me and him. Some mothers are happiest with their children 24/7 for as long as they possibly can. Most mothers fall somewhere in the middle. Different strokes for different folks. You're not a cow, at all.
