Junior school behaviour and sanctions

I work in a junior school and feel the behaviour has deteriorated in the last few years so I'm interested in what it's like at yours.

Do you think behaviour in junior schools has deteriorated or AIBU? What's it like at your local junior school? What sanctions are given? Do you feel the sanctions work? If not, what do you feel would work better? I'm finding that it's the same kids in time-out at break and lunch and some even brag about it.

Follow theunteachables on Instagram to hear why sanctions that punish and isolate don’t really work and ideas for more connective strategies that work to guide children towards desirable behaviours and accountability.

She works with older children (teens) who have behavioural challenges but everything is applicable to almost all children in school.

I'm looking more for others real-life experiences. Whether others feel behaviour has deteriorated.

We do lots of pastoral support/therapies too, but it doesn't seem to impact the behaviour in class.

Could you sound any more like a journo? 🙄

Lol I'm not, I've been on here for years (penis beaker, although that's an old one now.) You can always report me and Mumsnet can confirm!

I did think about originally posting on the education boards but it can be quite quiet on there.

Think I'll post this on The Staffroom board as may be the more appropriate place after all...

She’s a real teacher, working in a real school, with real kids, with real issues, applying real approaches, getting real results.

Perhaps you were more looking for “yeah the kids are going feral, little Alex is constantly back chatting and tipping his chair over, we give him some time to talk about his feelings once a week but he’s still constantly in time out”

Rather than looking at a teachers actual whole class embedded approaches, with guidance on dealing with individuals who struggle to moderate their behaviours and how to change your lens when approaching difficult children and understanding why they might act out.

I hope you get the answers you are looking for…
