To ask for help with daughter’s vulvovaginitis?

Posting in desperation really. We’ve been to the doctor who had a good look and took a swab (results back tomorrow but she didn’t think on first inspection there was an infection). The skin is just so inflamed/sore in places that she is in pain every time she pees. We’ve tried Vaseline, sudocrem, bepanthen, now using epiderm from the dr.

It has been about a week of soreness and doesn’t seem any better. What on earth can we do?! We’re already avoiding all soap/bubble bath, using 100% cotton underwear etc. Is there a magic ointment out there somewhere?!

I second the changing washing powder - the scent in laundry or bath products can irritate. Surcare is scentless for laundry - do extra rinses as well if you think that might help. No toiletries or bath products; just water. It can take a few days fir the irritation to subside.

Ensure she’s doing really careful wiping after a poo, as often vulvovaginitis is caused by bacteria from the anus getting into the vagina when preteen girls don’t wipe the right way.

Same for any urine drips in underwear - the uric acid irritates so make sure she is dabbing dry. And try to get unbleached (and definitely unscented) loo paper if you can.

Fingers crossed for your DD that it settles soon!
