To ask what my bladder problem might be

I gave birth 5 years ago. The labour was long and difficult. Afterwards I had no sensation in my bladder. I didn’t know when it was full or empty. I was given a catheter for 2 weeks and some sensation make back.

However, since then I have constant pain in my bladder. The sensation you have when it’s too full.

The hospital have ruled out Interstitial cystitis and Neurogenic bladder. Urology have said there is nothing more they can do for me.

I am on a low does of pregabalin (nerve pain treatment) but over time this has become less effective. The doctors are reluctant to up my dose as it’s a controlled drug.

I am not incontinent and my bladder works normally but this pain is driving me crazy! It keeps me awake at night, makes me grumpy and impacts my sex life.

Does anyone have any idea what it could be and who I need to go and see to get a diagnosis/treatment please?

Thank you

It could be Painful Bladder syndrome, used to be called interstitial cystitis. Talk to your GP and ask for a referral to a urologist. Hope you get it sorted OP

I had/have the same thing without even giving birth. I believe IC but no confirmation. Had scans and tests and nothing showed. I gave up caffiene which helped ,and mine seems to be in on/off phases.

You need to see a urogynaecologist. There aren't many of them about and you might have to pay privately. You might benefit from a change of drug to something like amitriptyline for example.

I had this following a bacterial UTI associated with having a coil removed and perimenopausal vaginal atrophy. Possibly one of the the most painful, miserable conditions I have experienced. GP had no idea, hospital appt never materialised, bladder scan showed nothing. Eventually saw a urogynae privately and she sorted it all out within a few days. It is such a specialist area of expertise. If you are within striking distance of London I can send you her contact details.

The OP says in her post that she has already been referred to a urologist and that interstitial cystitis has been ruled out.

I haven’t heard of a urogynaecologist! I will definitely research and try to get an appointment as the pain is having a huge affect on my life. Thank you
