Name changed as could be outing!

Out of the blue I have developed the dreaded 'ick' after being completely happy with my partner. No way am I considering ending the relationship but just interested if this would bother others or if I am totally overthinking.

So we both had sexual health checks and all clear, in an exclusive relationship etc. But recently after meeting friends for drinks, he got a tattoo from a woman in a bar using a kit she had with her and that she had used on herself and possibly others. I have no issue with tatoos but I'm really grossed out by the thought of how unhygienic this sounds and risk of hepatitis and other blood born diseases and it has made me question why on earth a grown man would do this and just generally feel icky.

I spoke to a close friend and she thinks I should just forget it. I don't want to make a problem in the relationship as things are great, but I don't want to put myself at risk and in my mind he has effectively shared a needle in a bar!

Am I thinking too much into this?

Thank you all for your comments, I really appreciate it and feel much better to know I'm not going mad as I'm usually quite a relaxed person but my usually sensible friend telling me about I was making an issue over nothing really threw me!

Will have a proper chat and explain to him that I will be going back to using protection as I feel his actions were risky and I will try to get over my feeling that he acted like an irresponsible teenager and hope it is a one off but if anything like this happens again I will need to tell him I can't be with someone who acts like this.

Thanks again!

Is this bar in the UK? Surely there a laws that govern this sort of thing? Could the landlord be in danger of losing their licence for allowing this practice on the premises?

Not sure whether 'ick' is quite the right term. Bloody daft seems more apt.

If it was a new sterilized needle then it will be ok but he is an idiot for letting a random woman tattoo him in a bar, sounds like something a 17 year old would do on holiday after a load of pints. What was the tattoo and how does it look? Does he regret it.

Wonder if the people who think this is fine as long as it’s a clean needle would be happy to have surgery in a pub if it was with a clean scalpel 🤔

I have tattoos and I have loads of piercings, but all were done in proper facilities. Clean, hygienic properties. Licensed properties. Performed by trained people.

No way would I have a tattoo from an untrained person in a pub or other unclean, inappropriate premises.

Cleanliness & safety are the obvious issues, but as a PP said, what about quality of ink and potential allergens/contaminants? Did this pub random ask any questions about his medical history to check it was safe?

Quality of design and execution are the least of his worries.

I couldn’t continue dating someone who would do that. That’s actually worse than the teens who come back from holiday abroad with “Maga 2022” etched on their behinds.
