Flies in house

Am I the only one that is driven mad by flies in the house?!

It's not an infestation but a few in the living room and a few in the kitchen flying around absolutely drives me insane.

It's summer so we always have windows and doors open so I guess that's why they keep coming in but then they die before they get out and the floor / window sills have dead flies on them.

Eugh

We don't leave food out so not too sure if this is normal or if I just have a weird aversion to flies that just wouldn't bother others.

I too get lots of dead flies on my windowsills. I used to have a dog that would spend all summer trying to catch them when they came inside. It was very entertaining to watch. Sadly he passed a few years ago and now I notice the flies and think of him. I have no idea why they can't find their way out rather than die inside as I have lots of open windows.

We had this and it got really bad last summer - turned out we had a blocked drain which was attracting them, once that was fixed it was better, still getting a few flies though.

I'm not a scientist so I don't know if I'm talking nonsense, but I swear they're attracted to smells and such that we can't see the source of.
When we cook we make steam and vapours that land on surfaces, get between cracks, settle on light bulbs etc.
Like opening a window allows billions microscopic smell particles out into the world and the little buzzy bastards follow them in..
