Long haul flight ticket name mix up

Wonder if any (aviation)staff can tell me if this is a problem? Daughter going on long haul flight with Qatar airways and her name, when she has checked in, has come up with first and middle name run in to one another; ie. think Karenlouise instead of Karen Louise. She is flapping that this is not exactly the same as passport. I think it will be fine, but knowing how officious airlines can be, I thought I'd check to see what others thought?

This has happened to me a few times (not with that airline though) and it wasn't even mentioned. Also Had one trip where we all only had the first three letters of our first names due to a computer glitch, Aldo no problem!

Unhappyhair · 27/06/2022 22:14

I'm unsure but can she not edit it herself? On a jet 2 booking I realised my daughter's name was slightly wrong. They let you log in and change up to so many letters.

Airline staff here. Totally fine, it can be a system limitation that it’s missed out and we see it all the time. It would be considered a match and is nothing to worry about.

redwaterbottle · 27/06/2022 23:14

It should be fine. I have a hyphenated surname and some airlines don't accept the hyphen and it looks like one long name. Never been an issue.

Ledwood85 · 28/06/2022 00:20

Happens to me all the time. Never an issue.

Justcannot · 28/06/2022 00:39

Same as above; my hyphenated name is always laurajane smithjones on plane tickets and boarding passes. It's fine. The only time we've ever had a name problem was when my idiot husband booked the flight and put his own name down as Dave only, when it's actually David Peter. Surprisingly Ryanair let us change that at no cost, but said that it would have been an issue at the airport.

Immaterialatthispoint · 28/06/2022 00:43

This always happens to us, boarding passes always say Davidarthur and Janetevangeline.

YerWanIsGettinNotions · 28/06/2022 00:49

Should be totally fine. I usually only put my first name on flight bookings but my work booked my last flights using my passport details and the tickets were issued for “karenlouise smithjones” in the run-on style (I have punctuation in my surname too). It’s frustrating as they tell you to check the name is “exactly as it appears on your passport” but my name doesn’t look like that!

I was also worried because my ESTA for the US was in my first name only due to a previous family holiday, so not the same, but it was all fine. (The ESTA is checked against your passport, not your plane ticket - in case anyone else ever needs to know.)

MrsDamonSalvatore · 28/06/2022 00:56

Another one here with a double barrelled name which is always run together on plane tickets eg. ‘Smithbrown’ , I was worried too first time I saw it but it’s never been an issue.

Christinatheastonishing · 28/06/2022 01:02

I flew a couple of weeks ago with Emirates and it was the same, they even added the title in! E.g. Smith Karenlouisems. All fine.

Fleur405 · 28/06/2022 01:20

This happened to my OH when I booked tickets for our first holiday together (I don’t know how/why, I don’t have a middle name). Anyway it was totally fine!

BritWifeInUSA · 28/06/2022 02:57

Aviation employee. Perfectly normal. GDS doesn’t recognize spaces, hyphens, accents, etc. It won’t be an issue at all.

GrandSlamFinalee · 28/06/2022 03:04

Totally fine. I flew just yesterday with both my surnames put together with no spaces. Now, good luck to whoever wants to try and pronounce that 😂

Maybebabyno2 · 28/06/2022 05:40

Airline tickets ALWAYS do this with my dps last name, they remove the hyphen and push the two names together.

It will be a character limit thing.

TheBermudaTriangle · 28/06/2022 05:58

This happened to me recently for a long haul business trip booked by our corporate travel operator - I was in a panic, envisaging not being able to fly!

Confirmed with the airline that there was no problem and it was absolutely not an issue / not even acknowledged at any point of check-in, boarding etc.

Thanks all - sorry for delay in replying - I’m just staying with my daughter before her flight. Fell much better now - thanks so much - knew I could rely on mumsnet 👍
