Too expensive or not?

Yesterday I went bed shopping, just around the major sofa/bed retailers. I brought a divan king size bed with an ottoman and free standing headboard. It ended up costing £1200. Is this a standard price for a bed or the normally price. This was from furniture village as I wanted to see the bed before I brought it and not guess what it would be like online. I have no problem with the price as I like the bed but was just wondering if this sounded excessive or the standard.

Does it include mattress?

RagzRebooted · 27/06/2022 13:45

If it's a decent one with a mattress that doesn't sound too bad. I paid £500 just for my.double mattress.

BarbaraofSeville · 27/06/2022 13:50

There isn't really a standard price for a bed. You could pay anything from about £200 to £20000. For that price I'd expect it to be decent quality, comfortable and durable.

We've never paid that amount and both beds we've had (one from Ikea, we're still using the frame over 20 years later but have replaced the mattress with a Leesa foam in a box one) have been really comfortable and long lasting.

No mattress, just bed and headboard. Divan ottoman was about £800 and headboard about £400

I've beds where the base and headboard cost that much and I've very similar looking ones that cost a lot less. The difference in quality is really obvious when you compare them.

Ducksinthebath · 27/06/2022 14:05

Seems normal for a divan and headboard.

redbigbananafeet · 27/06/2022 14:13

An indulgent bed is one of life's little luxuries, get yourself a really good mattress too x

Playplayaway · 27/06/2022 14:23

I'm not keen on those divans. They just dont seem 'airy' enough and the fabric must get grubby 😳

We paid around £800 for our solid oak bed frame about 12 years ago which seemed a huge amount of money at the time, but it's been money well spent as it's still in perfect condition despite being dismantled and moved a few times, plus it's wipe clean.

CupidStunt22 · 27/06/2022 14:38

Bought, not brought.

Seems fairly standard

midsomermurderess · 27/06/2022 15:05

That looks exactly like a king-size bed I bought online for about £700: base, mattress, headboard and delivery from divan bed factory

juas · 27/06/2022 20:47

@CupidStunt22 Sorry, mumsnet grammar police.

It's not grammar, its using the entirely wrong word for what you mean.

Mercurial123 · 28/06/2022 10:52

I also go for wood beds, the fabric will get dirty and the cat used the last bed as a scratching board.

Oh fuck off. It’s clear what she meant 🙄

CalistoNoSolo · 28/06/2022 10:59

I paid £20 for my bed frame (King size metal, found it on preloved) and it's my forever bed. I spent £900 on the mattress though which was a lot for me at the time but so glad I did as its seven years old now and still going strong. So £1200 isn't at all outrageous for the complete thing.

CalistoNoSolo · 28/06/2022 11:01

Just seen its only the divan and headboard, which to me is very very overpriced. Can you cancel the order?

Ihatethenewlook · 28/06/2022 11:03

I agree. I’ll go all out on a mattress. £1200 for a basic divan and a headboard well too much imo

Chikapu · 28/06/2022 11:06

I like the headboard, it reminds me of a bar of chocolate! I think the price sounds fine, it's going to last you years so overall you'll get your money's worth.
