Needing opinions on this colour. My hair is dark brown at the moment but I’m wanting a change.

im not sure if to go for this colour or a darker plum or burgundy?

No one will be able to advise you on just a picture of a hair colour, except to say you are free to dye your hair whatever colour you wish!

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 27/06/2022 12:27

I like it. If you like it then go for it. It's just hair, you don't have to keep it that way forever.

ChrissyShenkle · 27/06/2022 12:45

Nooooooo don't do it, that's what's known as "dinner lady red"

Hi op,
It's a beautiful colour!
Can your skin gone ' take ' the colour?
you might find yourself buying a few new clothes to match your new colour😀
it might be a bit darker if your hair is really dark, you can try, when you do the tester it will give you an idea of the end colour.

HelloHeathcliffeItsMe · 27/06/2022 14:50

I must confess I really hate that sort of hair colour. It seems really popular but I think it suits very few people and tends to wash people out. If you live it however then go for it!

crabbitmaw · 27/06/2022 14:59

I had a similar sort of colour up until a few weeks ago. I had it for 10+ years. Now that Im 35+, I find my skin tone can't keep up with it any more; it really washes me out. Also, my roots are predominantly grey now which means I am having to touch it up every 2-3 weeks and I can't be bothered. So, I'm currently at the "orange" stage of going lighter, with an eventual goal of light auburn/dark blonde. So, my advice is to consider your age and your roots as the re-growth is without doubt an issue with this colour.

I also found that as the years were passing, the build up of colour was making it darker and darker with every use. Not a colour for the faint hearted, it takes a lot of upkeep. Oh! The staining on towels etc for the first 3-5 washes after you've dyed your hair; make sure you have old, tatty towels to hand. I also need to make sure I don't wear light coloured clothing to the gym for the first week or two after I've dyed my hair, as the sweat makes the colour run and stains my clothes permanently.

I agree with @HelloHeathcliffeItsMe ; if that makes me a dickhead then I am a dickhead.

Iamclearlyamug · 27/06/2022 15:01

My hair is almost this exact colour, it doesn't wash me out at all (although I have a decent tan) and I always have lots of compliments.

Didn't realise it was so badly thought of, thankfully nobody has been rude enough to say anything - if they had they'd certainly have been told to FO!

It's a lovely colour @Sukicat1 but it does fade quite quickly so be prepared to redo it regularly 😊

Crabbyboot · 27/06/2022 16:16

It depends on your colouring, if you are a cooler skin tone and eyes I would say yes as it has a purple tint, but if you are warmer I would say no go for a warmer coppery red instead.

Pantibliss · 27/06/2022 16:19

If you're young it'll look good but I think it would be quite ageing if you're 40 plus.

Well I've never heard that, but cook at DC school did have that colour 😆

Sukicat1 · 27/06/2022 16:27

Thank you everyone. I’m 26. my eyes are green and I have cooler skin. Dinner lady red not heard that one 😄

Sukicat1 · 27/06/2022 16:28

I think possibly it would be darker than the colour with my hair being dark, unless I have it lifted first

iknowthismuchis · 27/06/2022 16:34

It's really really hard to get red out of hair once you've coloured it so be really sure before you do it

Stevie6 · 27/06/2022 16:35

@Sukicat1 I have green eyes and cool skin and used to have this colour a lot when I was in my 20s, go for it

Gogster · 27/06/2022 16:37

I don't think this colour suits anyone.

Why not something more natural red head?

bloodyunicorns · 27/06/2022 16:50

I like it. If it will suit you, then go for it.

PinkButtercups · 27/06/2022 16:53

I've had this colour many times. 29 now and really need to dye my hair done again.

Definitely not heard it be called dinner lady red. It's not even red, it's purple 🤔.

It took to my hair fine, also dark brown and then I went for a more purple but still looking subtle. It's a nice colour!

PinkButtercups · 27/06/2022 16:56

My absolute favourite colour is called Rubine by directions. It's so messy though! And washes out every hair wash.

DurhamDurham · 27/06/2022 16:59

I'm not keen on the actual colour but if you like it then go for it, it matters not what we think!

AchatAVendre · 27/06/2022 17:02

Its a shade that seems remarkably popular in certain parts of eastern Europe and Switzerland. I've always wondered why.

madasawethen · 27/06/2022 17:20

It's pretty. I've done mine this colour a few times. It seems to fade fast.
