by my daughter and her friend for post a level break 😝

sorry for the clickbait, posting for traffic xx

need advice for how to see rome on a budget. seems like we're spoiled in the uk with all the free attractions - british museum, national gallery etc etc and in rome everything costs! 🙈

dd worried about spending too much of her savings, any advice on how to see the major attractions properly and experience them on a budget? is there any major city pass to see them all?

please advise xx

Most of the Italian cities do do a pass. They’re all blending together on my head now, but we’ve done them all on different budgets, I’ve never thought “shit the museums are steep”, even when we were counting euros into separate envelopes to carefully manage a tiny budget.

Okay cool! Do you know where we can find them? I think colloseum, pantheon etc is steeper than museums

The Roma pass is listed on the official Italy tourism website, so, if in doubt, go with that one.

Take id and they should get a reduced entrance. Iirc there are combined tickets for Forum and Colosseum, and you can get tickets including Palatine Museum and more. There used to be free entry one Sunday per month. There is a lot to see just walking around from street level and Borghese gardens are free.

Book a timed entry for Vatican museum to a pid queues

I'm currently researching my future holiday and came across this post. If it helps anyone in the future...

The first time we went to Rome we didn't plan anything, just paid for attractions on the day. We were so upset with the Vatican 'tour' we had booked from someone advertising the tour on the street, that we went back afterwards to complain about their false advertising. It wasn't what we had been promised and ended up getting a tiny bit of money back, but the main annoyance was that we didn't get to see half of the Vatican or get a guided tour.

The second time we went to Rome we used a Go city explorer pass and preplanned/booked our attractions. I would DEFINITELY do this again next time. We saved a tonne of money and had no complaints! We were traveling this time on a budget, so the discount helped.

I booked a tour for the main sites - not only did the mean I didn't haven't queue for entry but learned lots of interesting things about them. But - many of them are within walking distance and you didn't need to pay entry fees to see them when I was last there. Really recommend tours for the roman forum and colloseum, especially the forum - when I went there weren't many information posts so the tour was invaluable.

Things like the mouth of truth, pantheon, city view through the keyhole are easily walkable - also the main piazzas for sights like the trevi fountain.

So much to see just walking around though!

Roma Pass is the best one. Gives you free travel too.

I used a site a lot for research before I went and it ended up being pretty damn useful Rome Wise

A Segway your is a great way to see the city. Don't bother with the Vatican museum. It is never ending and not very interesting. Was completely underwhelmed by the Sistine chapel by the time I got there.

The Pantheon is still free, but you need to book online for weekends and public holidays.
Get a combined ticket for Forum/Colosseum/Palatine - I recently paid €23, which is great VFM, but they will need to book at least 4 weeks in advance.
If they aren't bothered about the Vatican Museums, they can still go to St Peter's free of charge - but will need to queue for one or two hours, as have to pass through airport-style security.
Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo, "mouth of truth", Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps - all free.
Walk around Trastevere - great area.
Loads of churches are free - best are Sant 'Ignazio, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, Santa Maria in Trastevere.
They can walk everywhere too. Really no need to spend lots of money.
