Just tested positive for COVID and have a tiny baby... Terrified

Hi all. I know this isn't really an AIBU but I know this forum gets a lot of traffic.

I just tested positive for COVID today. My partner was positive yesterday. We haven't tested DD (3.5) yet but she has recently been poorly with a cough and temperature so we assume she had it too. She seems to have recovered now.

My partner and I only have very mild symptoms so far (tickly throat, mild cough but otherwise fine). What is majorly worrying me is that DS is only six days old 😢 I am terrified that he will catch it and it will make him very poorly as he's so young. I rang 111 and they said there wasn't a great deal I could do aside from just keep an eye.

I am triple jabbed (had booster when pregnant) as is my partner.

Was anyone else in a similar situation? What happened and was little one okay? I am so annoyed that we managed to avoid COVID for so long and when we need it the least, we get it! 😓

Thank you ❤️

I know lots of young babies who have had it and been absolutely fine OP. Chances are little one will be as well.

Your baby will have some protection from your vaccination (well done). The vast majority of babies sail through this rather better than adults. The main thing to keep an eye on is how feeding is going, as if that tails off then they'd need checking over.

I should also mention that I am breastfeeding. I assume he will get some protection from that?

This happened to my friend's DD when the baby was about a week old. The baby had antibodies from pregnancy as mum had had a vaccine during pregnancy, plus antibodies through the breastmilk and was fine.

Breastfeeding helps pass on antibodies. Stats show babies are far less affected than elderly adults etc.
