To think nothing is more pointless

DP recently told me about a video she watched - I didn't ask why - in which a woman used a hairdryer to curl her eyelashes (apparently by putting on mascara and pointing the hairdryer up her face). I said that this confirmed a long-held suspicion of mine: eyelash curlers are the most pointless piece of equipment in existence. You all own hairdryers, right? So they're redundant, even if they had been any use in the first place: I can't speak for other demographics but no straight man ever looked at a woman and thought "you know, she'd be attractive if only her eyelashes were curlier".

She was unable to convince me with reasoned argument that there is anything out there more pointless and less useful. So have at it, MN. I'm betting it won't be long before someone nominates their DH, DP or DC...

My eyelashes are so straight that if I don't curl them, you can even see them when I look at my face straight on. I look younger and more awake when I curl them, and no I don't do it for men, I do it for me, but my OH does think curled eyelashes are an improvement so it's a win win.

I've never used eyelash curlers but now I think I need them as I always look half asleep. I have long eyelashes too. Can anyone recommend any? Sorry OP totally misses point of your post 🤣

I've used a hairdryer to heat metal curlers slightly so the curl holds better - did he not mean this? Just blasting a hairdryer at your eyes sounds mental.

I look 200% more awake and alert with my lashes curled - I have slightly odd ones that are long and thick but stick straight out or down, so my lids can look a bit droopy.

Most useless thing that I can understand the reasoning behind but hinders my life way more than it should - public loo toilet roll holders that "secure" the roll so much that you can't get any out or can only pull out minuscule tufts. I hate them Angry

This sounds more likely, Tron.

OP, have you not actually seen the video?

I’m a desultory make-up applier so would never do this, but I agree with Tron, mascara/eyelashes make a huge difference.

I’ll see your hair dryer and raise you… a teaspoon

Don't waste time on cheapo ones. I like Kevyn Aucoin. Yeah I know, obviously I'm a dumb airhead for spending £17 on it but they last and I'm frugal with most other things, don't wear lipstick or anything exciting!

Thank you. I must admit I'm scared they will cut my eyelashes off 😀

TheWayoftheLeaf · 26/06/2022 22:59

I have straight eyelashes. Without a curler my eyes look bald. And a hairdryer would make the mascara sticky so it splatted all over your orbital bone.

Most useless thing is the bow on the front of knickers. Ruins the line of tight dresses and looks infantile not attractive.

mizzo · 26/06/2022 23:12

When I was about 13 I burnt my eyelid badly by using eyelash curlers heated with a hairdryer and because I'm clumsy I trapped a big chunk of eyelid in them. Haven't used them since.

Crucible · 26/06/2022 23:19

When I wore make up I liked eye lash curlers because it meant wet mascara didn't streak onto my lenses. I've missed the point here. As you were.

TeethKicked · 26/06/2022 23:37

I’ve seen the video (don’t know why I watched it because I’ve never owned eyelash curlers, and don’t currently own a hairdryer but still …) It is your actual lashes you use the hairdryer on, not the curlers. BUT - you use the hairdryer on a cool setting.
