Landlord advice?

I rent and accidentally ruined the place and am not sure what to do. I have been depressed all day about this. A vase blew off my windowsill, which knocked into the radiator below and actually shattered it. It’s one of those glass panel heaters and the glass has broken off. Series of ridiculous events.

I was hoping to be able replace the glass panel, but it seems like the entire radiator needs to be replaced. I have contacted the manufacturer but it seems like they don’t have replacement glass panels.

I’m stuck on what to do, AIBU to repurchase the radiator and hire someone to install it?

I’m hesitant to tell the landlord because my contract is up for renewal this month and I don’t want her to use this as an excuse to not renew my contract.

genuinely feel overwhelmed, what should I
do?

Firstly, don't say you've been DEPRESSED about it all day. That's just ignorant.
Secondly, just tell the landlord what happened, apologise and say you will pay for the damage if you have to

Your ignorant

I'm a landlord.

Accidents happen, and a landlord will know it. Tell them about it. A decent landlord will have landlord insurance which may cover it, unless the excess won't cover. They may be happy to go halves or for you to pay. Either way, they'd much rather be told and if this is the only thing to have happened it won't go against you.

Do you deal directly with the landlord or an EA?

Most decent landlords will have insurance for exactly this sort of accident - just let your LL know.

I'm trying to imagine what a glass radiator looks like!

AnyFucker · 27/06/2022 21:23

Just Google it. There are lots.

@thefirstsummer don’t be led into signing a contract and potentially paying fees that you don’t have to.

Your contract will turn into a rolling monthly contract on expiry of your current tenancy automatically.

@thefirstsummer I was waiting to read how you'd 'accidentally ruined the place'. Imagining something pretty horiffic!

it sounds like all you have done is broken kne radiator. Is that correct?

have you had previous issues with your LL or their agency? If not why do you think this is such a big deal? It was an accident, one if you should have insurance to cover it, if it's even worth claiming!!

what's really up?

ps. First time I've ever heard of glass radiators, or glass radiator covers! I'm going to look into those tomorrow!!
