Question about garden fence

We live a semi. House was a new build and they didn’t provide boundary fences. Neither neighbour wanted to pay for the fences or contribute, so we paid for both sides. It’s a hit and miss fence so there are gaps. Where do we stand on them hanging stuff on the fence, which will be visible in our garden due to the type of fence it is or if they cause damage to it. As we paid for it, do we own the fence and are therefore responsible for the upkeep (which we are happy to do) and do we have a say in what happens to it, as in if they hang stuff from it. It’s very windy where we live so we’re expecting upkeep costs, which we don’t mind paying for, but I kind of begrudge people hanging stuff (such as screens) that will be visible from our garden when they haven’t contributed towards it and declined to do so. Perhaps that shallow but I’m curious to know where we stand. Thanks.

Is the fence on the boundary line, your side, or their side?

It should show on the deeds which are your boundary fences. If it's your fence & in the correct place (within) your boundary you can insist they don't hang things/paint it etc, but tread carefully, neighbour disputes are no fun.

If you own the fence regardless of if it’s on the boundary or inside it they cannot touch it without permission.

Thanks for the comments. One side is our boundary line and the other side is their boundary line, though the house builder have installed the fence within our property line (we know this as there’s a line down the middle of the wall that joins the two properties together). We actually lost a little bit of garden and were surprised to see that the fence was placed here. Maybe the builder done it because we paid for it and to keep it within our property? I definitely don’t want to get in to a dispute but I did read online that as we paid for the fence solely ourselves, it’s our property. The fence is a pain in the backside to be honest because of the big gaps in it but it has to be this way to let wind pass through it due to the windy area, otherwise it would just blow down.

They shouldn't attach anything to your fence. It’s your property. But it might seem petty to them.

They can't attach or paint or do anything to your fence. They can erect their own next to it.
