Noisy people in hotels

I'm staying in a hotel tonight and am absolutely exhausted and wanted an early night. Fair enough to expect some noise with doors banging etc. until maybe 11pm I think and then after that you should assume people are sleeping and move around quietly?

I've had a group of women shout-talking outside of my bedroom window for 30 mins now. I know their life stories. I shouted out the window to ask them to keep it down and they couldn't even hear me they were talking so loud.

Before and after that there has been doors banging everywhere. People walking past in the corridor talking at the top of their voices.

AIBU to think that at least after 11pm in a hotel you are considerate that a lot of people will be asleep or trying to get to sleep?!

It's stressing me out now so I'm wide awake and angry 😤

YANBU, OP. It’s annoying but sadly par for the course in hotels. After too many sleepless nights as a result of inconsiderate cunts, I always bring earplugs and my Lectrofan white noise machine. It’s a lifesaver.

Toughtimesagain · 24/06/2022 23:57

YANBU- I suspect alcohol is at play here.but do it elsewhere, away from the sleeping quarters-

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/06/2022 23:58

What sort of hotel is it?

Penguintears · 25/06/2022 00:02

Posh country house hotel.

I can't use ear plugs as I have small ear canals and they're painful! I can't even keep earbuds in my ears as my ears are too small and they fall out (they should design some for women's ears!).

People just dont give a shit these days, not just in hotels either.

SiobhanSharpe · 25/06/2022 00:09

If it's still going on (after midnight now) phone down to reception and complain. Say where the noise is coming from and any other details they might need.
if nothing is done complain again and also again in the morning.

Maybe try the Ear-Hub ear plugs, £5 a box of 12. They can be squidged into any size or shape you want, including very small and thin, with the rest of the silicone over the outside of your ear as a sound-shield iykwim; or you could just halve them.

Noisy people are such arseholes but sadly very common.

Could you chuck water out of the window? (or something else)

FlissyPaps · 25/06/2022 00:14

Have you contacted the reception/front desk to request they or security ask them to keep it down?

Bad advice. How to escalate a problem and identify yourself.

Go down the proper channel and speak to the security.

in which case, absolutely complain. No one should have to wear ear plugs when they’re forking out for a decent hotel.

RedCarsGoFaster · 25/06/2022 00:20

Chuck some water out the window. Even if you have to do it a few times - they'll soon fuck off.....

Thanks, I'll look into these.

The women have moved on now so it's just general random door bangs and things now, so I don't think I can call reception about that.

Just annoying though as I was so looking forward to a relaxing evening and long sleep and now I'm wide awake and stressed out!

I do feel like people are more selfish nowadays, but maybe that's just what people think as they get older 🤔 😁

You have my sympathy.. I stayed in a hotel last weekend and the amount of noise was madness.
People walked past our dog laughing loudly, shouting, talking loudly obviously drunk but drove me mad then when all quietened down about 2am the amount of noise from the above room sounded like a hoard of elephants having a party.
People just don't care anymore that's a fact

kissmelittleass · 25/06/2022 00:35

Auto bloody correct!
Walked past our 'door' not dog!!!

SylviasMotherSaid · 25/06/2022 00:51

The worst thing about some hotels I’ve stayed in is you get the noise late at night from people coming back from the pub or things like that and then it seems no time at all until the early birds are up clattering around after 5 . We normally go a a south west seaside resort and although I love everything else about it I never get a decent nights sleep . People just seem to have no consideration at all .

Trumpton · 25/06/2022 01:11

I too have tiny ears and use Quies wax earplugs. They are wax balls that you warm in your hands and fit your ears perfectly. I use one ball divided into two for both ears.
you have my sympathy I hope you are asleep now. I have about another hour before my insomnia will let me sleep again. Absolutely no noise here apart from the faint sound of the sea.

KangFang · 25/06/2022 01:34

Yep, had this happen before, a few years ago.
Noisy people shout talking outside the hotel at 2 am, waking up the entire street.
The neighbours of the hotel complained about them.
In their yell chat outside at 2 am, they were shouting about where they were from.
I told the hotel reception.
The were kicked out the next day.
Hotel already had warning signs up around the place about being loud at night and the neighbours had complained previously.

Penguintears · 25/06/2022 12:13

Just in case anyone is at all interested in the minutiae of my life, I did end up getting to sleep around 1.30am and then skipped breakfast so I could have a lie in.

It really puts me off staying in hotels though. I'm really amazed how selfish and inconsiderate people are. Maybe I should move to Japan!

people just get full of drink and party spirit but it's annoying. i once stayed in a hotel and all night (so it seemed) a bedside drawer opened and closed. God knows what they were doing with it or what they had in there. Another time I was staying at The Capital in Knightsbridge and my room was next to the lift motor. WIRRRH/Brake - clunk. Clunk - brake off - WIRRH. All bloody night. i didnt get a refund.

I read this as...
People walking past, our dog laughing loudly...
Made me chuckle to imagine your noisy, laughing pooch!!
