To think there is something wrong with my flapjacks?

I made flapjacks on Wednesday. Cut turn into little squares and have been munching on them ever since. I’ve also had stomach craps, bloating and loose poo ever since.

DH says there is nothing in flapjacks that could cause this. I thought he must be right as it’s literally just oats, sugar and butter!

ive just had another one and immediately afterwards stomach cramping and feeling like I need the bog for the 5th time today.

coincidence or is it my flapjacks?? DH isn’t eating them.

yabu - you can’t get Ill from flapjacks
yanbu - it’s clearly the flapjacks

Oats upset my stomach if I have too many, I do love a flapjack though!

AllHailKingLouis · 25/06/2022 08:28

It’s definitely the flapjacks. I’ve just had another one and it’s started again 5 minutes later. Still going to eat them though, they’ve got chocolate on for gods sake.

Thank you for the recipes which I’ll try next time ☺️

Try them with gluten free oats next time just to see if it makes a difference.

RoseOud · 25/06/2022 09:33

I have a problem with oats. Really upsets my stomach. It's sad because I do love them.
Muesli does the same to me. Love that too! Especially Alpen.

Surely oats are gluten free? They're oats!!!??

Nope!

Interesting ... Hmm

They have chocolate on them … I can’t just step away! 😂

Oats only aren’t gluten free due to their processing - any gluten in oats is minuscule compared to other foods like bread and pasta. If the OP can eat these fine then she’s not got a gluten intolerance so gluten free oats won’t make any difference.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/06/2022 11:09

It's the oats.

I once ate Oatibix and I genuinely thought I was going to have to go to hospital.

RoyKentsChestHair · 25/06/2022 11:35

I have soupdragon’s flapjack recipe saved although I often make the Nigella breakfast bars mentioned above and just add all sorts of other naughtiness such as the last dregs of crunchy nut cornflakes or a dollop of peanut butter. 😋

bridgetreilly · 25/06/2022 12:06

Syrup is necessary for flapjacks that don’t break your teeth!

I did put golden syrup in, maybe not enough though 😞

I’ve found mine are hard if I cook them too long, so it might just be that.

Footle · 25/06/2022 13:04

Undercook, always.

PumpkinSpicedLatte22 · 25/06/2022 13:16

I make flapjacks regularly, hard to mess them up really.
They do give me horrific wind, same with my son

NiqueNique · 25/06/2022 13:20

Flapjacks shouldn’t be rock hard!

(misses point of thread)

Maybe step away from the flapjacks now @AllHailKingLouis and give your system a chance to recover...

IncompleteSenten · 25/06/2022 13:28

I have been on Mumsnet far too long because I opened this thread fully expecting the title to be a euphemism.

Still I clicked. 🙄

But no, yanbu to suspect the flapjacks might be disagreeing with you.

Grin @IncompleteSenten Also, I love your username!
