To use the sideboard as a TV stand

we got a 75 inch tv recently. We are struggling to find a WIDE oak tv stand that’s reasonably priced. Some are so low that we’ll have to sit on the floor to have a reasonably viewing angle. I’m tempted to buy a sideboard to use as a tv stand. Height wise it’ll be perfect!
DH thinks it’ll look hideous. AIBU ?

we have oak furniture throughout, it has to be oak.

The only advantage with a "proper" TV stand is they normally have holes cut out of the back for cords to hidden TV boxes. You can do this with a fancy drill bit
I fell in love with a low TV stand and changed the legs to longer hairpin ones to lift it up.

Not really sure that there is enough difference between a TV stand and a sideboard to be "hideous"

Wow that’s over six foot. I’d wall mount that. But if not anything will do as the tv will dominate whatever.

I remember when I was in the same boat. We ended up repurposing an old coffee table as a TV stand temporarily until we found the right one. It wasn't ideal, but it worked for the time being. Eventually, we stumbled upon some beautiful oak TV stands that fit perfectly with our decor.
In your case, considering a sideboard sounds like a clever idea! Sometimes thinking outside the box leads to the best solutions. And hey, if it fits the height requirement and complements your existing furniture, why not give it a shot? Your comfort and enjoyment of your new TV are what matters most.

Could you not put in on the wall ?

I have my tv on my sideboard and I think it looks fantastic.
