C section recovery

Queenie6655 · 23/06/2022 18:58

Hello all

Posting for traffic

Anyone got any help for the worse periods ever after a c section

This is my third period and I can't function
Not sure if this is to be expected?

Does it get easier after a few months?

I have an expensive private gyni booked but I'm. Not sure if I should just wait and aim to lose weight and see if that helps??

Any advice please
I can't go on like this for two weeks every month

My periods were horrendous after I gave birth .. my first posr partum period arrived about 3 months after my section and I couldn't leave the house it was so heavy. A super plus tampon wouldn't last a 20 min walk to my friends house. Go to your GP, I got prescribed tranexamic acid tablets which helped massively .... Then by my third or forth period they were back to normal flow.

Ahhhh thanks so so much

This seems to be quite common

I need to call the doctor again
Two weeks of helll after ovulation
Can't function for half the month and I can't go on this way

Hmmm, I had a c section 2 years ago (my first and only child). Prior to pregnancy I had very light periods- wouldn't have filled a regular tampon if I'd used it all day on my heaviest day. Since my periods came back about 8months after c section they have been very heavy for me- super plus tampon flooded and leaking through clothes after 2 hours. My normal flow hasn't returned almost 18 months later. So this is my new normal and am managing flooding with tampons plus reusable period knickers.

So I guess my point is... My periods got very heavy and almost 18 months later they haven't returned to pre pregnancy flow. So seeing gp about it is probably a good idea so you can manage this going forward.

Thank you so so much

It is hellish

Any advice anyone else?

From ovulation to period it is total hell on earth

Mooncup

Period pants

Tranexamic acid

Norethisterone

Polyps removed and big fibroids looked at

Mirena Coil

This was my journey over the course of four years. Too many utterly mortified moments as I stood up and I flooded. Go to your GP and get help. It's not "normal" and you have options.

Queenie6655 · 23/06/2022 22:09

Thanks so much

Hell isn't it

Did the coil help?

We do we go through this shit

Should I pay for the private gynae or wait to see if they ease due to the Caesarean section

Yes it is mortifying but probably around half of the population have been there too (myself included) and would have been sympathetic if they'd even noticed (people can be very self absorbed). Sending you best wishes for working out what's going on as this doesn't sound 'normal'. I think I remember being told to get support if I had any excess bleeding after 6 weeks (?)

Queenie6655 · 23/06/2022 23:38

Well true

What are we supposed to do

Hard to keep going with this with a young baby and a 4 year old

This happened to me for around 6 months after my c section but I am glad to say things returned to normal (my period is normally heavy but manageable).
In the meantime;

  • lilets do maternity pads which are huge and very absorbent. You can order on Amazon
  • double up the pads with super plus extra tampons (slightly bigger than super plus)
  • ibuprofen helps lighten the flow
  • I bought some MASSIVE washable night time pads to double up with tampons on my worse days
  • make sure you drink plenty of water

Hopefully this will pass quickly and these tricks will help you in the meantime

Definitely talk to your doctor. Everyone is different. For 5 months I had a really heavy period totally flooding pads and tampons, large clots etc every 14 days. Then suddenly, out of bothered I haven't had one at all for 3 months but still get the bad cramps every month. Who knows what the hell our bodies do after being cut open like that. Don't go on like that if you don't have to. It makes it so hard to leave the house or even just function. Plus risk of anaemia

niki26 · 23/06/2022 23:55

After my first section in 2015 my periods eventually went back to being 3 days and fairly light.... had a second section in 2020 and still suffering heavy, long hideous periods!

Also, I feel very sick now between ovulation and period....usually only for one day but a couple of times I've thought I've caught a sicky bug .... it was only because I put my symptoms into a period tracker that I realised it was happening once a month! Felt very sick yesterday and have come on my period, 3 days early. Bizarre.

Hiddenvoice · 23/06/2022 23:56

I’m almost 3 months pp and my periods came back fairly quickly. They are not overly painful but Incredibly heavy which makes me feel uncomfortable.
Sadly my gp just fobbed it off and said it will take up to a year for my body to recover and that Included my periods

PrincessPeonyPants · 24/06/2022 08:02

@Queenie6655
I hope these bits of advice help you to manage things whilst your body recovers.
I forgot to mention that my cousin had the same problem for around 6 months after c section and then everything went back to normal. I think it's quite common, maybe see how things go for a while before you go to the GP.

What has helped so far?

I'm 4 stone over weight so I am def working now on shifting this with gym and swimming few times a week

Definitely speak to GP. It's great you're working on your weight but you shouldn't have to suffer because of it- especially as it's unlikely to directly cause it. The Tranexamic acid should lighten your flow and by the time your hormones have settled a little you'll be managing periods better.

Do you breastfeed? It can cause heavier periods for a while after birth.

Queenie6655 · 24/06/2022 13:02

Thanks so much

I have stopped breast feeding now
