Does sugar affect fertility?

I know there is research etc but does anyone have any personal experience of changing their diet and becoming pregnant when they’ve been unsuccessful before?

I have been trying for 7 months. I have been pregnant once before, it ended in mc but it happened very easily. Although my weight is the same, I was a lot healthier last time.

Hoping some positive responses will spur me into making changes!

I have heard that sugar is a huge inflammatory and anti inflammatory diet is definitely meant to help. I took three years to conceive though and honestly sugar was a great pleasure in my life during a difficult period.

I've not heard of any link between sugar and female fertility. Being healthier overall will probably increase your chances but remember that fertility is a product of both partners. (And timing, and luck!)
Best of luck.

It can, yes. PCOS is known in my area of healthcare as ovarian diabetes.

Low carb helps fertility but not too low, so avoid keto. Focus on whole food carbs. Cut out as much processed food as you can, especially seed oils.

The life cycle of an egg to mature follicle is 90 days so if you start now, aim to TTC on the cycle that corresponds with 90 days.

Alcohol however definitely seems to have an effect.

I wouldn't say so. I ate a lot of sugary things and fell pregnant quite easily.

Hope you get a bfp soon op. Flowers

A friend of mine swears - absolutely swears - by this. Tried for years and was on the list for IVF. Cut out sugar (I think all sugar - no fruit, sweet potato etc) and got pregnant and managed it again with the same regime for a second child. I don’t know the details or if it’s scientifically valid, but I know she believes it worked for her.

OP take replies like this with a pinch of salt.

For YOU, sugar/carbs may not be ok for your fertility. In my experience, there’s no harm in trying.

Thank you all It’s worth a try, every month is getting harder to see the negative test and I do eat A LOT of sugar.

I changed to a keto diet with no sugar and was pregnant just over a month after starting. Was a couple of years of trying before that.

DixonD · 23/06/2022 19:33

I had IVF and didn’t change my diet - still ate sugar every day. Worked first time.

My fertility was fine, it was my DH that had the issue, hence needing IVF. What I’m saying is, having sugar didn’t affect my outcome.

DixonD · 23/06/2022 19:34

If you want to cut it down, you should. It might help you to feel like you’re doing something positive to help your chances and it will make you healthier generally.

Age is what affects things the most, and overall health.

sistergettingengaged · 23/06/2022 20:10

@Zipupyourmickey I’ve just turned 34 which is a worry.… but overall health is ok

34 is still relatively young - I wouldn't worry about that
