Daughter been invited to a party at a trampoline Park and its 3 hour with 2 hour jumping and food. The mum said a couple of mums jumping too but I'm not. Is 9 old enough to stay at party on her own? Thanks

I've been leaving my kids at parties since they were in Reception but I won't let them go to trampoline parties at all.

Fine with other activities (climbing, swimming etc. ) but trampolining is far too risky.

Yes perfectly OK at this age for the parents to not attend birthday party, she can go on her own

JulieShk · 23/06/2022 15:41

Our local trampoline park has a cafe/sitting area. I've sat in there for a couple of parties while DC were 6/7/8. Then made myself scarce for the food/party part and come back at collection time.

My staying though is no comment on the party parents and kids. It's because I know how shitty some of the teenagers that go there can be and have seen plenty of smaller DC bumped into and hurt by bigger kids who aren't a part of their group.

FrustareNT · 23/06/2022 15:43

Why would you stay? You being there will not stop an accident!!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/06/2022 15:46

How many of us actually know someone who has broken a wrist at these places? It's raree surely?

A friend of mine broke her arm during a supervised trampolining session at school - and that was with one child on the trampoline at once, plus numerous spotters around the edge.

All it takes is for you to fall at a funny angle and that's it.

SheWoreYellow · 23/06/2022 15:50

Staff have said to me that the accidents are usually adults being stupid/drunk.

LifeIsARollerCoaster22 · 23/06/2022 15:50

Yes definitely at 9!

LuckyAmy1986 · 23/06/2022 15:51

Any other party I would, not a trampoline party though

SheWoreYellow · 23/06/2022 15:51

Maybe turn up half an hour early for pick up? Two hours of jumping is a lot!

They would say that, wouldn't they?

It's not true though.

Given the opportunity to leave I would.

You could keep an eye on what your child is doing though and warm them to be careful if they are doing something stupid! Maybe preventing an accident?

Ah, I see a helicopter.

Bickles · 23/06/2022 15:55

Yes. Left DS at one at 8 and often since.
The organising parent has my number

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/06/2022 15:58

Yes - its age 5 for leaving kids at a party where I live.

You would be regarded as very odd to stay with a 9 year old.

Thebeastofsleep · 23/06/2022 15:59

As long as the host parent and your daughter are fine with you not being there then definitely fine!

Léighméleabhair · 23/06/2022 16:02

Leave them alone for a party at 9 yes, but they’re definitely not attending a Trampoline party, full stop. Far too risky.

hangrylady · 23/06/2022 16:03

Yes it's fine. My 9yo DS would be embarrassed if I stayed at a party. I'd only stay if the parents asked for extra supervision.

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Ok, call me what you want. But I've read horror stories about trampoline accidents too many times so yes I would let them go but with so many excited kids running around the place yes I would want to be there to make sure they weren't doing anything stupid.

Hallyup89 · 23/06/2022 16:07

Yes I'd leave them at that age, but tbh I'd probably go and sit in the cafe to have some time to myself 😊

coffeecupsandfairylights · 23/06/2022 15:38

No, but lots of primary-aged DC wouldn't want to be comforted by a friends' parent - they'd want mum/dad.

A broken wrist is a really common injury and not particularly serious in children. I broke my arm and my ankle on separate occasions just doing normal activities at school when I was a kid - once in a PE lesson and once falling over while playing. But presumably you don't stay at school all day with your child in case they have an accident there?! What about activities like Brownies or Cubs? I'm guessing you don't stay and watch them for that either? They could just as easily break a wrist or something slipping over on a hall floor.

It didn't require any more comforting than any other bump or scrape to be honest. A teacher took a look and phoned my parents and my dad took me to A&E. It wasn't traumatic or scary or anything. Kids can't always have their parents there just on the off-chance that they might need comforting for something.

What even if you just sat there and had a coffee? What's so embarrassing about that? You don't have to follow them round the trampolines!

lolil · 23/06/2022 16:09

A public park? Yes I would stay. I would just sit with a coffee.
