To have had a REVELATION (stinky shoes related)

So yes, I suffer with stinky feet. Washed several times a day, breathable shoes and socks, I've tried most things. Seems to run in the family.

My new, leather sandals have already started to smell. In desperation, I sprayed them with the Hg odour eliminator for surfaces. We use it normally for DC's wee accidents, or vomit. It has an enzyme in it that breaks down the nasty smell.

Well, knock me down with a feather, it only worked on my stinky sandals!! Not a whiff, no discolouration, happy, happy happy!!!

Thanks for the tip! My son has very smelly feet so I'll let him know about this.

My tip, mentioned on another thread, is that Anusol cream gets rid of warts and boils. I've recently used it on a painful bum boil and it disappeared in a few days.

Oooh, I like it! Good tip

Thanks for the tip; I posted the other day asking fir recommendations to de-pong shoes so Ill try this

whereamu · 23/06/2022 17:01

@0blio have you used that on warts?
How long did it take?

September29th · 23/06/2022 17:37

You could also try Simple Solution pet odour/stain spray, or similar, with enzymes.

MiniPiccolo · 23/06/2022 18:07

Just put half a teaspoon of bicarb in any stinky shoes, knock it around a bit - then tap it out, OP.

MiniPiccolo · 23/06/2022 18:08

Please dont spray enzymes on your bloody shoes!!

YouReallyAre · 23/06/2022 18:09

This is such a great idea, I've got some of this so will give it a go!

PunishmentRoundupWithJoon · 23/06/2022 18:21

Nothing works on my trainers, absolutely nothing. Have tried bicarb, doesn't make a ha'porth of difference. Nor does talc, or even putting them through a trainer wash in the machine. Even tried those charcoal things you put inside the trainers, no use at all. My feel must be horrendous.

Isaidnoalready · 23/06/2022 18:22

My dad had to stop eating cheese his feet were way sweeter after that

I had quite a big one on my neck that was quite sore and itchy - doctor confirmed it was a wart and not anything more serious. He gave me an appointment to remove it in a few months but by then it was gone with the Anusol treatment twice a day. It was all I had to hand and I didn't think it would do any harm. In all it probably took a few weeks to go completely. Doctor just laughed at me when I told him what I'd done Grin

Why on earth not?

filka · 23/06/2022 18:38

You can put shoes in the freezer too, to kill the bacteria

Mostess · 23/06/2022 18:40

This stuff is very good. It works on my smelly feet, and nothing else does trustproducts.co.uk/products/trust-long-lasting-aluminum-free-extremely-effective-deodorant-for-foot-odour-protection

Alcohol gel also works. Obviously not on suede or anything that might change colour, but fine on leather sandals which have got a bit yukky in hot weather etc.

MiniPiccolo · 23/06/2022 18:51

I'll say it loudly for those in the back -

JUST USE BICARB

Jesus wept.

florianfortescue · 24/06/2022 06:37

What an incredibly obnoxious response when you haven't actually explained what you think is wrong with using enzymes on your shoes.

SOMETIMES BICARBONATE DOESN’T WORK

There. I can shout too.

FabFitFifties · 24/06/2022 06:44

Your feet are in direct contact with sandals all day - I hope this is a safe tip! Bicarb sounds the safest option to me

AND WHY SHOULDN'T WE USE ENZYME BASED CLEANERS?

See, I can type with my caps lock on top 🙄

I've tried bicarb and it didn't do anything. I also tried it in the fridge for odour and again nothing.

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 24/06/2022 07:03

I used to have the smelliest feet and had done for decades since I was a young teen. I tried everything, I washed all the washable shoes regularly, I didn't wear the same pair 2 days in a row, washed the feet with anti bacterial soap twice a day, the only thing that worked was Odor Eaters insoles and I had to renew them regularly

I read somewhere that it was caused by fungus and right enough I did get recurrent bouts of athletes foot, not all the time probably about 2-3 times a year.
I did an intensive course of treatment for about a month - I week of athletes foot cream followed by daily application of antifungal talc for the next 3 weeks, only wore shoes when I absolutely had to otherwise bare feet or cotton socks.
I washed all the washable shoes and dried them over hot radiators (pre gas crisis when we could still do that) so they didn't stay damp and then I treated them all with an anti fungal shoe spray. I wore a different pair each day and doused the insides in the anti fungal spray when I took them off.
It's been more than 3 years now and I still don't have stinky feet. Sometimes I'll take a pair of shoes off at night after a long hot day and there might be a mild whiff of sweat or hot rubber but none of that cheesy, vomity smell that used to haunt my poor old plates of meat.
Try it, you can thank me later 😁
