To expect DP to change his shirt every day?

DP works from home almost exclusively. I've noticed he's become very unconcerned about his appearance.
Today, he was wearing the same old shirt as yesterday, and he really smelled of B.O.
I think he should make the effort to at least put a clean shirt on every morning, and maybe some deodorant!
It's really off-putting for me, I'm super sensitive to bad smells, and I'd rather he smelled nice, or just neutral 😉...
AIBU?!

Your partner needs to at a minimum:

  1. Shower Daily
  2. brush teeth twice a day
  3. Change socks, jocks and T shirt (or whatever touches his arm pits)

Anything less? Yuk

My partner has been working from home since 2020, he has become so lazy and stinks most days, he will wear the same clothes for up to 3 days sometimes and not shower, it is so digusting. You are not being unreasonable

Could he be depressed?
That's pretty grim personal hygiene.

Not showering daily is not 'yuk'

I wear the same clothes for days now I'm WFH but I don't smell. If I smelt then yes I'd change. Of course you're not being unreasonable

You really need to raise your bar. Honestly, unless you’re a pre teen then a shower, deodorant and clean shirt/ underwear each day is a must. You might not think you stink of BO, but at the very least you will smell stale, musty and not fresh; who wants to hang around someone like that?

The poster didnt say they dont wash or wear deodorant, they simply said they wear the same clothes for a few days.

Oh OP, when I was working from home I made sure that I went for a shower and changed my clothes every day. It was the only thing that kept me in a routine and kept me from going insane. It can be really difficult when you're working from home you become quite lazy. I know I did at the beginning and there was certain times of the week where I just couldn't be bothered even brushing my teeth but obviously you just have to get up and keep moving.

Before he started working from home was his hygiene usually quite good? Could there be a possibility that he might be a little bit depressed now that he's working from home?

My boyfriend weirdly doesn’t wear deodorant and doesn’t smell and he can wear the same outer clothes (changes underwear daily) for a few days and doesn’t smell. With me it depends on the weather and what I’m doing. But definitely change if you smell!

Dancefever · 22/06/2022 17:40

Surely the problem is that he hasn’t washed! No point changing his shirt and spraying deodorant if he hasn’t had a wash first.

GG1986 · 22/06/2022 17:40

Yes he is, this is why I put up with it.

I did, but he was offended at the idea he was smelly 🙈... He thought I was being mean with him! He still hasn't changed in spite of giving me a half arsed promise he will from now on. TBS...

God, that's typical! Get him to sniff his own pits. Refuse to sleep with him. Selfish git...

Husband: you stink. Have a shower and change into clean clothes
