To wonder if you grew up without a garden, how did you find it?

Just that really.

We we’re fortunate that we had a decent sized garden growing up down South.

Now I’ve bought a house in the North, beautiful countryside around us but no garden.
We have a 4 year old son.

So I guess I’m just wondering what it’s like to grow up without a garden. We have fields, a nature reserve, hillsides and woodlands, all walking distance from our house. But it’s not the same as just opening the door to a garden for him to play in.

I grew up in a flat. We just went to the park instead

We live in London in a flat with no garden, and make good use of the local playgrounds. It’s really common to bump into people we know there as we’re all in similar flats, so the park becomes an extension of your home.

however, When we go to visit my parents, who live rurally in a village, it’s really uncommon to see other children in the playground, even though it’s recently been done up. I’m guessing as more people have gardens they tend to have play equipment and it’s easier to just throw open the back door than walk round to the playground. But I still find it a bit baffling!

I've never lived anywhere with a garden, only yards. There's five parks within walking distance though (still live in the same area) so we were always at one of those or round at my grandparents who had two biggish gardens (front and back).

Never had one either. Always felt a bad sad about it as we didn't have many family gatherings and grow up in a council flat. Nothing wrong with that. Mum did the best she could. Was always her dream to have that, now at 65 she finally has and it's lovely to see.

Me and my partner have just had a baby and that's our dream, to be home owners with a lovely garden and have the children play and for us to entertain.

Well your setting sounds idyllic and in no way restrictive for your DC just a little trickier for you that’s all.

Mine grew up with a range of gardens and yards in the city and didn’t mind any particularly.

Sorry, should have said very much mainly a tiny yard like in the old Corrie credits.
